View Full Version : Experience With Glock Grip Reduction?

I'm tired of screwing around with my firing grip to simply run my guns. I've been living with this for 15 years and enough is enough. Gen 4 does not reduce trigger reach anywhere near enough, and I don't want to give up my proven older battery.

I have a very thick palm and short trigger finger. I cannot take an ideal grip and even reach the trigger. Is anyone doing a reduction that DRAMATICALLY decreases trigger reach? Whose work improves this aspect of the grip best?

Ben's (Boresight Solutions) extreme redux is going to fix this issue better than anyone elses work.

There are alot of people out there doing VERY nice grip reductions but the bottom line is that NO ONE can make a Glock grip as slim as Ben at Boresight Solutions.

Dare i ask why you dont simply ditch the Glock and go with something that fits your hand better?

How small are your hands? I have small hands and find the generation 4 guns to be absolutely ideal.

I used to own a Glock 19 with Ben's extreme grip reduction, and that thing was as close to a 1911 grip angle your gonna get.

I would also check out Joey at Diversified Firearm Concepts, he does really good Glock grip reductions also.

Thanks for the help so far, but I'm not looking to do it myself, and I could care less about the grip angle (well, maybe a little) I want maximum trigger reach reduction - period. I've searched and read many other threads, but my need is very specific.

I swear I'm not trolling here.... but instead of custom one off jobs with filling in with epoxy, cutting, dremiling, stippling, etc...

Between the eight or ten larger manufactures, I have to believe there is something that works for your hands other than Glock.

Wouldn't it be easier to just switch to a platform that actually fits your hands? Just curious why you'd look into very custom work over just finding a pre-made solution.

With a need so specific it's time to start contacting the people who do the modification and get actual recommendations from the people who do it best. Best of luck with your project

Again, everyone but Ben (i dont know what Joey is doing these days ) is NOT doing a "complete" grip reduction.

There is more to a grip reduction than just flattening the hump.

Like i said earlier, Ben's grip reductions are the only ones that will significantly adjust trigger reach IF you really are having that much of an issue.

If you need a MINUTE adjustment then that opens the door for some other Smiths out there.

Good luck man.

I had a grip reduction done to my EDC G19. You can read about it here: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=81097&highlight=warranty As you read it, note that I did quite a bit of rasping on the front strap before I sent it off to Burns Custom Pistols for the reduction.

This has become one of my favorite pistols ever. I've shot a pair of Gen 3 G17's 2-3x per week for the last several months, going through about 4k rounds while comparing sights, ammo, connectors, GFAs, and other mods on the range, in matches, and in a class. I shoot the G17's better than the reduced G19 in slow fire at 25 and 50 yards, but draws, splits, and times on every other meaningful drill are slower with the G17s than with the reduced G19. This holds true even if I don't shoot my G19 for a few weeks and focus on the G17s--for me, the reduced gun is faster to shoot and easier to manipulate.

Eliminating the hump and altering grip angle are overrated. Reducing the overall grip circumference (which reduces reach to the trigger and magazine catch) may not improve how the gun shoots but they definitely improve how it handles during other manipulations. The G17s feel clunky after a run with the reduced G19, and the timer shows that they're slower. Also, I'm less likely to screw up reloads or to have trouble on the first target after a reload with the reduced G19.

For me, grip reduction makes handling my G19 faster, easier, and more precise, so I'm sending the G17's to Burns Custom Pistols for the exact same work.

PM me if you have questions.

While not exactly keeping with your current battery, might I suggest a LoneWolf Timerwolf frame?

Other than that the previous mentioned mods might fit the bill. My brother recently dremeled the hell out of his 17 himself and it fits my small hands great!

Check out Extreme Reduction Option:

LEO buddy of mine just had his Gen III G26 done. Very nice, fast turnaround.

I transferred this post from Kilo's home-brewed grip reduction thread. Lots of good information there if you have the ability to do it yourself.

Based on my search, I did my best to avoid sanding through the original Glock plastic and into the epoxy.

With the heat method of reforming the hump, I was able to get it toned down quite a bit. After that, I got a long piece of 2x4 with some 100 grit sand paper and started to straighten out the back strap. I removed enough material to only get rid of the stock checkering on the highest part of the hump. Then I slowly put a radius with a small block of a 2x4 using 150 grit then working my way up to 220 grit. The stippling was a quick job to finish the job but I will rework the pattern.

At this point, I have the ability to fill the cavity in but I do not feel it's necessary. I'll have to bust out the calipers to measure the thickness of the material I have left.
