I got a promotion at work(well not really till May/June, but whatever) so I decided to buy myself a little present. Stopped at a local shop looking for a Rock Island 1911 that I could beat up and not worry about. Well they didnt have any, but they did have a pretty minty 29-2 6" blued with target grip, hammer, trigger and sights. Serial #N38xxxx which I believe puts it in the 1976 time frame. There are a couple of light scratches in the blueing, but I would say its in at least 90% if not higher. Has some rotation marks on the cylinder, but not bad. Gun doesnt look like it was shot to much. It doesnt have any holster wear either(at least not that I can tell). It didnt have the box or paperwork, but I am going to order a factory sheet from S&W and try to find a presentation box somewhere(anybody got a line on one?). I will get some pics up soon(my camera phone doesnt take good enough pictures to do this gun justice).

I got some pictures that are decent with some natural light. My flash on my phone just kept washing out the pictures last night. Deep blueing is VERY hard to photograph. I need to go use my dad's nice DSLR to get some better pictures.

In the 4th picture you can see a light scratch just above the S&W emblem and that is really the only flaw in the gun(I dont consider the turn marks on a cylinder to be blemishes on a wheel gun), at least from what I can see.

Congrats on you new purchase - nice looking Smith. I think you'll be very pleased. Mine is of roughly the same vintage..............

Got a bid in on one right now. It needs the tray re-finished, but there is a guy on S&W forum that does it for like $35 or so.

Yep, lots of trays are rough and the guys over there seem to very nice work. Good Luck!

Congrats on a fine snag.

I can attest to the fact that Smith .44s are an addiction. It is rare that one does not shoot extremely well. They start to multiply...... :D

I am looking for a 27 to match the 29-2. Hopefully I can find one in as good of shape and not pay out the ass for it.
