Has anyone noticed...

There are both tv and radio commercials about "having a kit, having a plan" in case of emergency. There are notices sent out about Government websites providing lists and ideas for emergencies. If you walk into your City Hall there are flyers about being prepared for emergencies. There are tv shows about preparedness and survival. The survival ones, and there are numerous shows about survival, are quite popular.

I don't remember this stuff being around when I was growing up. I'm not trying to sound paranoid, but what does the Governement know that they're not telling us for all this preparedness information to be mainstream???

I've seen this on bulletin boards, TVs, state buildings and DMVs for years.

What I find even odder is that they are doing a CYA thing with the adds, but then mark people with gear as potential threats.

What is old is new again?

When my father was growing up in the 50's all American school kids praticed nuke drills as the Air Raid Sirens were sounded. Most public buildings (schools, libraries, civic buildings) had a Fallout Shelter. Civil Defense signs, posters, and radiation detectors where everywhere.

I don't think there is any conspiracy or hidden knowledge here (i.e. "What do they know?!") - but we are definitely in hard economic times, and recent disasters like Katrina show we'd all be better off with more prepared citizens..

This!

Be prepared! Stock up! Have a plan! ................ So we can whisk you away to a detention center as a potential terrorist.

It makes sense to encourage preparedness, but the mixed message is what gets me.

Oh well, maybe they'll explain it all to us in the "Re-education camps" some day?

Agreed with this statement concerning public service annoucnments.

However, the Federal Government treat We The People like mushrooms as they keep us in the dark and feed us shit.

In recent years there has been a MASSIVE buildup of government stockpiles to include everything from freeze dried food/MREs to antibiotics. And let’s not forget about US Army MP (Specialist William Colton Millay) who was arrested by the FBI on "suspicion of espionage" for sending his mother an email telling her to prepare for the end of the world because Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in AK had a massive build of material intended for Martial Law in CONUS.

IMHO high ranking officials are anticipating civil unrest here, I won't speculate on the particulars. Pentagon think tanks even have published articles projecting wars fought over drinking water within the next ten years.

Off topic: this is something people fail to consider in regards to fracking shale oil and gas. Low volume wells use twenty to eighty thousand gallons of water. High volume wells use two to five million gallons of water. Not a wise use of resources IMO.

Re this thread - yes, the government advises that citizens be prepared for natural disasters, etc. God forbid LE needs to enter your residence for any reason. You're labeled a nut or terrorist for having cash, food, firearms and ammo on hand.

In the 50's many many homes had their own shelters in front of or behind their homes under ground. Those shelters and many many civil defense under ground shelters are still in place. In most instances all but forgotten.

Kinda like a treasure hunt but it might be worth doing the home work on location for use if in a pinch.

It's about time that the nanny-state start reminding Americans that it's our personal responsibility to take care of our own safety and security.

Better than the other message that the gov has been subliminally sending out for years..."we'll take care of you when something goes wrong..." and which millions of Americans believe to be the rightful purpose of our leadership.

Shyeah, right.

I think its just the government telling us that is the power gets shut off for 3 days that we better be prepared for them not to show up for that whole time, we better have enough food and water to last us.
