Yeah... we'll see. I need to hear what Brainless Joe Biden says about keymod before I commit to hating the nonsense. :p

If anyone comes across a SMR MKII 13 inch in black let me know. I am looking for one.
Okay folks, to settle this once and for all!
I met with Bill a few minutes ago to ask him about the MK4 and the whole keymod thing. He will be offering both. No ETA but there you have it!
Strange thread. There seems to be no downside to using Keymod holes instead of the oval holes in the proto that anyone has stated other than looks. Even if you never use direct Keymod-mount accessories, having the option is always better than not having the option. I'm still not seeing any FUNCTIONAL arguments against using the Keymod instead of non-modular holes.
The difference between the Geissele and the KAC or VLTOR is the mounting system. Some people may prefer one over the other.
will a .750 gas block for my 6920 fit under the mk1?
It's amazing the quality and innovation that as come out over just the past few years. Geissele has put out incredible products for years and this looks to be another great option.
Figured I'd share a quick, rather poorly taken pic....

I told Mr. Geissele that his MK4 was overshadowing his new SGB, and now after getting hands on with one....I believe it even more. It's flat out a superior design!
How do you get the new stuff so fast? I really want a 13 inch rail. Hook a brother up!
I honestly like the MKI and MKII better.
He gets his stuff quicker than I do sometimes and I'm right down the street from GA.
I got an email from GA and they said they have to fulfill a large contract now, and don't see starting production of the Mk4 until April
Wait so what makes the gas block so awesome? I didn't really understand it...
Materials aside, the mounting options for the gas block is what differentiates it from what is currently on the market. Once you secure it with the set screws, you can then drill and use a roll-pin to secure it in place to make it "bomb proof". There is always concern with the set screws working itself loose. Some manufactures will use loctite to secure their set screws but this makes it a hassle if you ever have to remove your barrel.
I think this is one of those things that the end-user is going to have to make the determination if the product meets their needs. Personally, I have not heard of any stories where someone has had their low-profile gas block loosen on them; however, if my profession relies on my gun working then I'm going to minimize any chances of my weapon malfunctioning. I think the cost of the SGB is on par with others on the market. It is a lighter gas block than the one I'm currently running and I'll be switching mine out eventually.
Nailed it exactly, and I can't do a better job...however I'll attempt to visually illustrate my point.

I have an upper build firing up. I may see about one of these for an Afghan build I'm doing. Have to check with my Gunsmith. :p He has been know to go out of his way to make sure those set screws are set solid.
I think I like the MkI best. Admit-tingly, I haven't tried the 4, but Im thinking the 1 is the goods for old Pappa.

I think you guys will want to wait for this new MK4 and it's barrel nut that feels like it's straight off a Space Shuttle. The weight of this rail is stupendous!
Well you want to sell that black MKI?
I really need one lol
Did I miss the MK4 vs. MK1 weight? Those pics made up my mind on the MK 4 though. With my little girl scout hands, it'll be nice to have the thinner profile I think...
The MK1 will feel better in your hand than the MK4 due to the contour of the side rails; however, that's not to say the MK4 is not comfortable. The advantage of the MK4 over the Mk1 is weight - pure and simple. Disadvantage would be that you lose the modularity but that will be addressed by GA through the offering of a keymod version. Bill has said that designing a keymod version will add weight to the rail.
Again RXM stole my thoughts:) The MK4 is just wickedly lightweight!

Will these railed fit over a DD low profile gas block?
hunt_ak.....I really think that yourself and others will benefit by waiting a cpl. more months for this rail. The MK4 should be completely refined at that point in time.
kenneth....the LP GB pictured above that I'm using is in fact a DD LP GB...so to answer your question, yes the DD LP GBs work perfectly with the SMRs.

Thanks. I had to re order my barrel with a different gas block so I wanted to make sure it would fit.
I'm actually going with the same barrel you have. You have any regrets on getting the LW? You think it hold the rifle back at all for more sustained fire? I wanted the government profile but they are out of stock so I went with the light weight.
Trident, any chance you can edit or repost the comparison shots, with a measure of the Outer Diameter (with and without rail sections - if applicable - would be ideal) and post a weight of each rail including barrel nut?
I've been running the Midwest Industries Super Slim Gen 2 rail, and I love it. I'd like to try another light weight option, and really liking the MK4.
While I'm glad GA is making a keymod version - I can get everything I want accomplished from the top rail. I'm of the personal opinion that the lightweight skinnier rails really don't require VFGs or hand stops. I say that as someone who likes a VFG or HS on quad rails.
