No engrave. I don't engrave my silencers right?

You know..this really isn't that hard to understand. 4h is for other descriptions and markings. You can put a paragraph in 4h if you feel like it. I'm more than happy to post a copy of my return sheet with my two Form 1s if you'd like and it addresses all these questions.
1. You can't list multiple calibers or barrel lengths in those respective boxes. I was instructed to use 4h for that. Again, I have that in writing. "list only one caliber in 4c, any additional calibers can go in 4h" as she put it on the form.
2. 4h is also used for other markings on the firearm, such as your engraving. I have that in writing. Also have it straight from my examiner. "4h, entire trust name needs to be engraved - no abbreviations" as she put it on the form.
Sorry if you can't comprehend this. Feel free to call the ATF and talk to your examiner if you want to clarify it further.
You know, the ATF should make things like that public knowledge. They should have a web site that talks about these things and clears the air. Not that I don't trust what you're saying but it seems like each person there looking at the forms has a different take on things.
And what happens to those who engraved it with abbreviations before this came out?
Spooky
Agreed. I know 5 people with abbreviated trust names on the lowers and on their Form 1s in 4h. That's why I called and talked to my examiner. It's a recent change and according to her I wasn't the only one calling the last few days surprised.
When the forms are kicked back you get a checksheet of the problem(s). You can see what else they might return it for. Mine was returned for a few items...like, I didn't print the front/back of the Form 1 on the same page. They won't accept that any more, so be careful if you print your own forms. They used to take multiple calibers in 4c. Not anymore. That's where I was instructed to use 4h for that as well (and I agree..I didn't before because 4h talks about markings on the receiver..not calibers). The problem is these rules change without any notice until someone gets a form kicked back.
This is all fine and well if it satisfies YOUR examiner. I've read at least a dozen other accounts of how ATF wants you to handle various bbls lengths and calibers and such.
I guarantee you there's someone who has contacted ATF and received contradictory info.
That engraving deal is interesting. I wonder what they have to say about the thousands of abreaviated engravings that are already done....
I think these threads get so contentious because you have people who need BLACK AND WHITE, clear cut criteria to work from with the NFA process. It's a common mental disorder I see all the time on the gun sites. Certain folks need every legality clearly laid out for them. It's a sad situation for these folks. I think they actually LOVE gun laws.
Unfortunately the NFA realm is ANYTHING BUT black and white. Yet the Black and Whiters will argue that it is crystal clear because they've seen examples of something done one way. Anyone who's had something approved another way clearly slipped through the cracks and is going to jail if it's ever discovered.
Ok, heres my one stupid question:rolleyes:. I have a Bushmaster with a 141/2" barrel w/ pinned and welded 1 1/2" flash hider. I am looking at buying a 11" upper to build a SBR if and when I can find a Lower. insted can I register my lower and replace the flash hider with a smaller A2 making it an SBR and than be able to swap back and forth the 11" and 141/2' uppers legally? Some of the early posts here are cofusing as to what can and cant be done. thanks
