Interesting. This will undoubtedly stoke a lot of fear.

Cali & Tejas on the same side...approaching fantasy movie :-)
I'm always up for a dystopian-civil war-societal breakdown flick. I'm in.
I like the idea but hollywood ****s up every movie of this type.
I dunno, if rural cali got their shit together and pushed the urban libtards into the ocean I could see them joining up with Texas.
It is certain to be disappointing. It will portray all the real patriots and true Americans as trash. An accurate civil war film would not be allowed.
We’ll have to see how it goes.
Premise is that a corrupt administration in its third term has retired the Constitution.
TX and CA lead the western coalition, But is in alliance with Florida and Georgia, etc.
This could indeed be intended as fear mongering for a Trump presidency, but the irony is that the biden administration along with the FBI and security state are pretty much headed down that path. While saying all along that they respect the Constitution. But that it has limits. And is a malleable document, etc
It’s Alex Garland so whatever you think the story is about, expect something different.
I’ve been a fan of his since his first book “The Beach” and met him and his literary agent at the time circa 1997. His stories aren’t straight forward typically.
Somewhere I’ve got signed copies of his first two books.

Reminds me of Independence Day but where we are the ones f'ing it up. I'm in.
For those who say Cali - Texas...never happen. In war strongest, well funded groups often form the alliances.
We didn't end up partnered with Uncle Joe in WWII because he was our obvious ideological ally. And in the end, the war that began to protect Poland from an aggressive invader left Poland in the hands of an aggressive invader.
This looks amazing. I love these types of stories movies. Looking forward to seeing this.

I wonder who they will get to play the bad President?
Just wondering which Hollywood star looks the most like Trump.
I like my fantasy movies to have dragons...
Sniper dude at 1:09 has pink finger nails.
Hollywood... It's just going to be a massive psy-ops. I wonder who's funding this, china? Screen play by the ___ (insert three alphabet letters of your choice). As someone else said, it's going to make the wrong people the villains. Let me guess, Christian conservatives and libertarians are the "prepper culprits". I think this will be a hard pass.
This movie is begging for someone to shoot up a Theater.
Kicking this thread back off, because the reviews have started coming out.
So I'm going to call this now, I don't think this film will suck, maybe just okay, and if I'm wrong well good, and if I'm right then Hollywood still sucks and nothing changes. This movie is going to be the next Hurt Locker, it's going appeal to put the average fat city dwelling Hipster who actually gets a glimpse into something they consider taboo, but the tactics will be shit, the plot will be laughable, the acting decent but over done in a lot of places, and in the end it will be just another action thriller that fails to move any sort of ball forward because they try to appease everyone and in doing so, please no one.
Why do I say this? Just look at the rags shilling for this movie verse what actually remains of the press these days and you'll find that they differ greatly in their messaging while saying the same thing.
Slate has the following: "A24’s most expensive movie to date is borderline incoherent. That doesn’t mean it’s not important." What BS, because they just go on to allude to "Not for nothing, it’s also the moment that suggests the most strongly that the vaguely defined conflict in this fictive America has everything to do with race."

The Free Press on the other hand has the following summery: no political message, no deeper understanding in to why people are fighting from Press who are there to "cover the story" don't end up saying anything just showing the destruction.

So this is my pre-take on the movie, I'm probably not going to see it until it's on Amazon to rent for under $10
Ron Swanson for President. HELL YEAH.
I kind of like the idea that that they mix up the politics. If you have lefty's bitching that there isn't enough message that's a good thing. We have WAY too many retards in America talking about civil war right now. From BLM/Antifa scumbags to disability cheat/sovereign citizen/auditor basement commandos that show up on these forums. People can sense the idiocy out there and that boils up in art. That being said, I doubt I will go see this movie, it looks like something that should be free on Netflix.
Now a REALLY GOOD movie is "Late Night with the Devil." I took my teenage daughter to see it last week and it was cool as hell. It is a found footage horror flick that is actually good creepy.
I like Alex Garland’s books and films. I’ll likely enjoy this one as well. Probably seeing it this weekend.
