Mine shipped today, I’m excited to get some rounds down range.
Not bad. Side folding mechanism isn’t quite as kludgey as some of the other aftermarket options. My main complaint with the Yugo AKs has always been the unchromed bores so it’s cool Zastava listened to customer feedback. There’s a part of me that kind of wants one of these new ZPAPs.
Never understood the problem with none chrome bores. Bigger problem for me is the price. No way I'm spending that on an AK

These have the chrome lined bores.
I feel like if I got one of these I’d pair it with a low-magnification optic of some sort, like a a PA prism or something, and do kind of like a shorter version of a Tabuk Sniper style setup.

The price is the only thing holding me back. I mulled it over when I got the email but just couldn't justify it. I could easily afford it, just can't come to terms with shelling out $1300 for an AK. That price is likely why it's still showing as in stock. All their other sub-$1K ones are gone within a day of being put online.
Believe me, I thought long and hard about it but nope, just can't go there.....
Try getting anything 5.45 now days. SLR-104FR’s are going for $2500+
SGL’s even more
I have about ten Zastava rifles and like them a lot. At $1300, this one is overpriced, even with the chrome lined bore. There’s nothing military about the stock.

The barrels are made overseas at Zastava. The 922r parts that are added are the furniture, the muzzle device and the FCG I believe.
Price is hard to swallow but I do still kind of want one.

Ironically if we lifted certain trade sanctions with China, they would be the remaining commie AK producer who could give us products at favorable prices. AKMs and 74s and all the rest would probably be in the $650 range. But you'd have to accept that like nikes and iphones they were probably made by political prisoners who got 10 years in a labor factory for saying the government took too much of a hard line on Hong Kong protestors. In fact a lot of the AKs would probably be made by Hong Kong protestors, assuming they aren't on the "made to order" organ donor list.Quote:

A .308 (or Creedmor cal) AR is the way to go for an accurate semi auto rifle if 5.56 isnt "enough".
No, they arent as ruggedly reliable as a well-built Kalashnikov-style rifle. But probably "reliable enough" and the pros outweigh the cons for the role.

What you're getting is a semi-auto version of a powerfull sub-machine gun (or acceptable SAW) that can be used as a carbine. It's just not a good base for a "rifleman's rifle" in my experience.
I even bought a Vector RPD. 3-4 MOA like a cold AKM (iron sights) on a good day and trigger was the worst I've felt in a "rifle". (Think of a bad Taurus revolver DA trigger) Sold that, too, but only because the trigger was so bad and that was normal for them.
I don’t really have any illusions about a scoped 7.62x39 being a particularly good DMR, I’m more thinking about it in terms of if 5.56 supply problems have required I pivot to 7.62x39 as my “go to” cartridge, I’d probably want a rifle set up with some magnification to supplement the SGL-21 with the 1x optic on it. Although with the ease one can swap out optics on a side rail mount I’m probably just going to do this with my SGL instead, and switch optics as needed. I’d still kind of like a ZPAP but the odds of me buying one anytime soon are not high, and this seems like the kind of thing that if you don’t get it soon you might not get it at all.Quote:

It's a good idea to buy SOMETHING just because even if you change your mind you can trade it later.
For example I've been hit up for small amounts of pistol ammo a couple times recently. Sell? Nope. Easier to get increasingly worth-less money than ammo. But I'll trade ammo for ammo, sure.
Will be similar with certain guns and accessories, too. Have something to trade.
I spent some quality time on the range today with mine, I had a bunch of old Tula sitting in my garage I wanted to burn through. After over a year of casually shooting it, I still like the gun a lot, but I'm honestly not a fan of the stock. Between not locking in the folder position, and the fact mine seems to whack me right in the cheek bone when I shoot, I think Atlantic/CZ sold these more for looks than practical shooting. It's also annoying there isn't hardware on the gun for a rear sling mount. I'm not planning to get rid of mine, but I'm thinking about swapping out the furniture for something that works better for me.
Sucks that it isn't a correct folder. The real ones have a sling swivel on the non folding sid eand a locking latch, they also swap out with the Bulgy poly folders but doesn't look like yours will.Quote:

I need to take it apart and look, but I was under the impression the Magpul stock would work. I was kind of hoping Zastava just used a standard Yugo rear trunion. I'm not super smart on AKs, though. Regardless, it's a nice gun, I think if I knew then what I know now I would have either gotten a classic wood stock, or gone for something more modern. I doubt you will ever see factory authentic mil-spec imported AK's with the obligatory 6 U.S. made parts. If they are cobbled together with sporter type parts, it is a different story. A new model will have to be submitted to the alphabet Technology Branch to be evaluated for sporting purposes. Good luck obtaining approval for a semi-auto facsimile of the real thing.
