The 551 above is nice looking. It would be great if it didn't have proprietary, expensive, rock-in mags. The paint job is nice though. If only you could get that operating system but with a lower that takes AR mags. Oh wait, you can...

It's driving me nuts, what's the black thing hinged at the rear of the front sight of that 551/552?
So when that's up, does POI shift to the tritium dot and that's why you'd want to have it down in daylight?Quote:
Tritium night sight.
Up = tritium
Down = regular sight post

I gathered, but I also noticed the tritium dot was significantly higher. So what I was asking was:Quote:
Up = tritium
Down = regular sight post
with the tritium sight down (regular sight post), you sight normally, with the POI just above the sights, but with the tritium sight up, do you put the tritium dot OVER the target (intended POI)?
That's the only way it makes sense to me to have it be so much taller.

Do you happen to know what the LOP is for that configuration?Quote:

I'll dig this thread up from the grave. I almost thought there wasn't a thread for SIG rifles.

This picture should help explain. This is from the 551 manual:

There are tritium vials in the rear sight that line up with the flip-up front tritium sight.
I'd like to post pics of my 556R but I had to send it back to Sig a month ago.
The CH was traveling too far back and was peening the receiver.

I thought I'd have a little fun with my 556xi

Nice SIGs/Swiss Arms rifles gents!
An early 556 I picked up back in '07 that I have since sold for obvious reasons.
After asking around and searching for the last couple years I finally sourced Swiss OD Green furniture for the 551. Just installed the stock today!

P.S. Yes I see it has been over a year since this thread was active, but what can I say? Getting SIG stuff takes time and expense!
My 551-A1 I picked up. I bought the rail from a coworker who had it cerakoted to match the receiver. (shitty pic)

gruen is awesome. I paid as much for my set as I've seen some 556's sell for. Wish it was cheaper but man, it looks great. My duo:

That one is an extra housing I had for the 41 so not matched. No, the 551 started life as an LE 551 with the barrel extention to make it title one. I sourced an original 551 LB from JoshNC and had Estes Adams install it. I remember Larry's parts kits and wish I had bought one (or 5) back in the day.
Maybe it's just me, but the Swiss SIG 55x is just the most aesthetically pleasing rifle on the planet IMO. Functionally it does nothing better than a top tier AR, but man the SIGs just call to me.
Thanks for clearing that up. I thought we had another "exception to the rule" HK rifle to talk about. A little bit insane that you have a spare GSAD trigger group, I'm now trying to strain my brain to figure out when GSAD imported any rifles with a black finish.
Thanks for clearing up the 551 mystery. There are a few LE 551s imported with 16" barrels that aren't in the LB profile (grenade ring) and I'm really wishing I grabbed one because they were there and then they weren't and we shall never see them again.
And we all wish we bought Larry's SIG and AUG parts kits, but it was during the Clinton ban and that whole "replacement receiver ONLY" crap scarred off most buyers.
Being a "holy grail" rifle doesn't hurt either. I definitely have a thing for rare Euro exotics. I think the main attraction is it was the last of the "old school" rifles to be developed. After the Stg90 it seems everything was made of plastic with few exceptions.
I have one of the LE trade in 551-2 with 16" oal barrel. Mine is gray and is interesting in that it has no import markings or country of origin markings. It is marked "SG 551-2 SP" and the serial number on the left side and then has LE/gov restricted markings on the right side. I believe my rifle was one of a group that were drop shipped directly from Switzerland to the LE agency, this no import markings. I swapped out the black furniture for early green from a CCF 551-1 LB kit.
