My Son is new to shooting and doing pretty well but i noticed that he aims with his left eye. should i be worry about this? if so how do i current this, even when he uses his right eye. he unconscious changes to his left.

Wear an eye patch on left eye while shooting or just tape left lens of his glasses - shoot enough like this and he'll correct. But he has to shoot A LOT like this.
I am cross eye dominant and just deal with it and the occasional brass to face.

If that's what he wants to do. My father in law is cross dominant as well. He chose to shoot hand guns right handed and shotguns/rifles left handed. If I'm using my right hand I use my right eye and left hand, left eye etc.Quote:

I started shooting long before I had ever heard of eye dominance. I just did what came naturally to me.
I'm left handed, right eye dominant. Shoot rifle lefty using left eye, pistol using left hand and right eye. Doesn't make any difference when using a pistol since it's held out at arm's length, but I think it's important to be able to use both eyes with a rifle, since i do practice shooting from both shoulders.

It doesn't matter if you close one eye, but ideally you aren't closing the non-aiming eye, because you lose a lot of vision on the side with the eye closed and the attendant situational awareness. It is much better to have both eyes open.Quote:

I'm right handed and left eye dominant. I have found that shooting with both eyes open helps as do red dots. I run an RMR on my pistols and either an aimpoint or ACOG on my AR. It's gotten to the point where I don't even realize it anymore and honestly I think the magnification on the ACOG makes my right eye become dominant when using it.

On the handgun if he's going to shot opposite eye. Tell him to stand like that picture of Jeff Cooper. Not perfectly square. AND to lift the gun so it's actually aligned with his left eye.Quote:

I'm very much opposite eye dominant to the point I can't read what I'm typing now with just my right eye.
ETA: on the tape deal. I can't recall the science behind this but I seem to recall people would use frosted tape that lets light through as opposed to a blackout. I can not recall why. I think it had something to do with allowing light in causing less fatigue. Maybe someone here knows. It think I got that from Bullseye shooters years back. Like the frosted scotch tape as opposed to the transparent type.
If he shoots well and it sounds like he does I wouldn't sweat it. I too am cross eye dominant and use my left eye for sight alignment but leave both eyes open when shooting.

im cross eye dominant as well.
i just turn my head a bit to the right, squint my right eye a bit and focus with my left. shoots fine.
just takes practice.

I'm right handed and left eye dominant. I've been shooting all my life, I'm 67 now. It's not a big deal for me.
I've read that Hickok45 is also left eye dominant.
