really well written, though we do use this system in the Marine Corps off depending on who you are with. the only time we use the rear sight drum is on the KD course of fire after that it's holds. Also the Marines now use the RCO as the optic and the iron sights are going to the butt pack and the optic is being used.
Also for the M4 the cross over isn't 50 yards it's closer to 55 yards and it works really well for 0-200 yards which is good because given the muzzel velosity at that distance you are not getting and real good effect on target with the fragmention of the rounds really pass 75 yards with the M4 and 220 with the M-16A4/A2. The 77 grain bullets that are used with the M4 fly just alittle diffrent as well and preform better at lower velosities.

I have been using this for some time and it works great. Many in the SF community are using this quite a bit now as well.

This was great. Interesting how there is a cross over at the 50m and 200m mark.

You can use any trajectory caclulator on the web and see that rounds like the .223 and others will be dead on around 175 to 225 yards if you zero at 50 yards instead of 100 yards. The bullet rise at 100 yards will only be about 2 inches or so, which means you can aim about dead on from 50 to 200 yards and hit a small target area. It's just easy to zero in at 50 yards compared to 200 yards, especially with iron sights. There are even indoor rifle ranges with 50 yard targets.
But you have to get a very small grouping zero at 50 yards because that grouping will expand a lot at 200 yards ( angular displacement). A two inch group at 50 yds is an 8 inch group at 200!
