SOLGW sets are really nice tight
Every upper receiver I have is tight on a Centurion lower.
So is the Grey Ghost upper/lower I picked up last fall. They may still have blems.
Centurion is still pretty well thought of, yes?
Besides their receiver sets, does anyone have any input on their C4 vs CMR mlok rails?
I picked up this set last month when they were on sale and am impressed with the fit and finish. I haven’t decided what to build with it yet, though, as I just purchased the set on a whim.

BCM still has those $50 blem upper receivers. I got one and it came assembled and a very small almost unnoticeable scratch on it.
The FCD/SOLGW set looks really nice. If I was doing a new one I’d probably get that.
FCD did a cobranded set with them a while back. I don’t even know if it’s still available but it looked really nice. And I don’t think it had the SOLGW logo as it was a FCD set made by SOLGW. I’m not a fan of gaudy obnoxious branding. Especially stuff that’s “founding father” themed. It comes off as a little silly to me. But SOLGW stuff has proven to be solid.

I have a san tan ambi lower paired with an MUR1a upper. I like it just fine. The combination fits a little too tight even. I have to tap out the rear takedown pin with a punch or a bullet tip to separate them. Probably wouldn't happen if you're looking at receiver sets rather than mix and match like mine.
Zev makes forged receivers that are always very precise and tight fitting. They also supply SOLGW and Noveske N4, as well as a few others I’ve forgotten about. If I’m building a precision rifle Zev is my go to.
Nodak Spud were my go to for military style clones, as their lowers had minimal roll marks and fit tight to most Colt uppers I have tried with them. They recently became Harrington & Richardson sold through Palmetto State Armory, so I’m not sure if the tolerances are the same as before or not.
Lowers, all 4 out of spec
1. Bolt catch detent hole not milled properly thus the catch rose just high enough to barely catch the bolt. After much back and forth with Montys wife and pix, they finally agreed. I returned lower had to pay shipping and a FFL transfer fee.
2. Pivot pin hole out of spec. Spring and detent hole out of spec causing the pin to sit way crooked when closed. I have seen other complaints on this on forums.
3. Pivot pin hole out of spec, was told both times it was "just cosmetic" and they were out of lowers to swap it.
4. New lower just bought. Holes out of spec. Firing and trigger pin holes was so huge I initially thought that was what I was seeing at the gun store but thought surely not. Sure enough, .162 pin gauge goes in both. .255, .256 pins go in on pivot and takedown pin holes. They did get the safety selector hole correct.
American mediocrity strikes again. :(
Past 3 years and a new one just last week.
Why do you keep buying them?
Oof
I do be a fan, but that is rough.
Zev bought Mega awhile back. Mega makes the receivers for Zev, SOLGW and others. Fit and finish is superb. They have a deeper dark and almost shiny color to them. Upper to lower fit is tight. And the uppers are thermal fit.
BCM is also really good. The finish is the standard milspec. Upper is thermal fit. Upper to lower fitment is not as tight as the Mega stuff, but not loose by any stretch
Centurion - Same as the BCM. I have a few of these and have not had the issues that others have had. Which sucks. Would piss me off as well.
I would use any of them again. Key to me is the thermal fit uppers. I prefer that.
I've used a couple Mega lowers for builds, and will probably use another one in the future. I've never handled an AR receiver that's machined or finished to a higher standard.
You can purchase the Zev/Mega/SOLGW receivers for under $100 each under the Expo Arms brand name if you wait for a sale. I have purchased several and they are identical to my Mega receivers, including the super tight fitment between the upper and lower.
Ignore me. I was thinking Redacted.
I think BCM nonblem products are good quality, but I figure anything advertised as a blem is a gamble. I'm happy with the one I got, but after hearing about problems like the one you got, I don't think I will buy another one. The one I got looks good and functions good, but I will say it was not a thermal fit. I've heard that BCM uppers are thermal fit.
Yeah a tight interface between the barrel and the upper is just such a pain in the ass to deal with [/sarcasm] Do you guys even own a hair dryer or torch? It's not that hard at all. In fact its pretty freaking easy. And anything that tightens up that interface has an inherent accuracy advantage. Army Marksman team found this out decades ago and actually developed a process to take the slop out of that interference.
