Been wanting a smaller single stack lately.

Are optic cuts an issue on a 1911 70-style? Still have a rear sight?

This would be my pick:

I have the IOS cut on my NH but would not get it retrofitted. Last I asked NH the price was close to $800. The option on a NH build is less but still pricey.
The biggest benefit to the IOS is it sits very low and gives you the option to return to irons if you want. If you are not dedicated to RDS, that is a really strong plus.
The Chambers RDSM is another good option but you will not have the option to revert later. You'll get iron forward of the optic, which is a matter of preference.
I sent one of my 9mm 1911 to Vulcan Machine Werks and they milled my slide and did a bang up job. Pricy but did a great job.

Haven’t had my 1911 cut yet but thus is what I’ll do. I bought an RMRcc to use. It will not require a plate. Its only about .03” wider than the slide. I’m going to have my dan wesson Valor cut. Its stl stl so refinishing isnt required.
I’ll have the rear sight dovetail removed. Im not going back to irons. My old eyes cannot focus on the front sight unless i have my special prescription glasses on, which i only wear for computer screen work. My normal glasses work with red dots just fine. I’m moving to dots for all my pistols.
I had a shop picked out but forget who it was. Have to search again.

I went with a DPO/DUO cut to give me the flexibility of plates (there are 2 places that do this cut, CHPWS or DSC, as far as I know). The NH IOS is nice, but they don't have plates for the ACRO or 509T.
The DPO means you can run Dawson or CHPWS plates, or direct mount the DPP. This is the system that Staccato uses.
The Chambers cut is well liked from other forums. They do have a plate for the 509T, RMR, and Holosun K/RMS C.
Anyone seen an optic on a Ruger Lightweight Commander?
I would contact one of the "millers" and see if they have any experience with Rugers. Sounds like your heart is set on the Ruger, so I would ask the guys doing the milling.
Good luck Ron. And yes, my BUIS are visible.

Late to the party here but I got the chambers RDSM on my ACW. The NHC iOS is appealing to me as well, I like the irons being forward of the dot.

The IOS looks like a similar concept to the Agency Arms AOS system. Springfield put this system on their prodigy line.
I dont have hand on experience with either
Anyone have experience with the CHPWS cross plate?

My perception of “lower the better”. In retrospect, that’s been in error.
One of my C2’s has the CH plate, the other has Dawson’s. While the CH plate IS marginally lower, from a use perspective, it’s a nonissue.
Presentations/acquiring the Dot are virtually identical on a timer.
That said, both of the CHPWS plates have been serviceable with no issues.
Just noticed this..
I had a G-43X direct-milled for a EPS carry by CHPWS (gaijin is familiar with the piece). I started the journey in May, and after three trips back to their shop they finally had to mill a "special plate" to make it hit appropriately.....(Read unable to zero RA9T at 25yds).
This took 5 months of back an forth.....
It is functional now, but they have some issues.....
I would choose someone else more skilled to mill a RDS..
That's too bad you had issues. Good to hear it (eventually) got sorted.
1911s don't seem to have many options as far as plates go. We have the C&H plates, the Dawson plates and then the old Trijicon plate.
The Dawson isn't offered after the fact by Dawson or Staccato. There are a couple shops doing it after the fact but they aren't licensed as far as I know. I'm assuming it isn't rocket science but still there'd be no guarantee the machining would be true to the DPO cut.
The Trijicon plate has been around for years and is probably well proven but it is for the RMR footprint only. There is a shop out of California that's supposed to be making a retrofit 509 plate but the owner is a flake and has jacked some customers over. Extended delivery times or no delivery at all that require credit card company intervention. No thanks.
This pretty much leaves C&H as far as I can tell. True they have had some reports of crooked plates and a few other things but they also seem to own up when there are issues.
Is there anyone I'm missing? There's also a Chambers Custom plate but there are limited shops offering the machining.

Geez Doc, that’s unacceptable, 3 trips back? Glad that’s done.
I would look to someone like Monsoon Tactical or Vulcan for the actual milling of my slide.
That’s what they do, the product they offer IS their machining ability.
Oh, Vulcan has their own plate they used on my Staccato P they ported. It’s been bullet proof on my Range Gun.
Might contact them Tok.
You might try calling these guys.https://vulcanmachinewerks.com/
CHPWS might work for you.....But on a product they offer I felt like a beta tester (too many issue to discuss here).
YMMV
I think with my 1911, they made me purchase a Trijy plate/sight combo that they installed and I had to send it in with it. And again, they did an awesome job, 100% satisfied. That way they dont start a job they need to complete without parts they dont haven is my guess. And you get BUIS.
I have been considering doing my Colt rail gun with them in 45acp. My SA is a 9mm.

Well shit, this thread just cost me. I just ordered a Trijicon plate system for a 2011/1911. I'm toast, now I gotta choose a sacrificial 1911. CRG is the front runner. God help me.

Here are some pics of my Girsan slide (bottom) compared to what CHPWS normally does. Note how my plate is located back an eighth of an inch or more. Note how the rear sight sits more or less flush with the rear of the slide while the other pics (top) show the plate slightly forward with a small wall or ledge behind the rear sight.
This wall serves as somewhat of a brace point for the plate. Unfortunately the factory RMSc mounting holes in my slide interfered with drilling new holes so C&H had to set the plate back a bit. I guess the other option would have been to cut the plate into the usual spot and then just drill and tap two holes instead of four and hope that two screws would be enough to anchor the plate.
The C&H tech who did the machining called me before doing the work. He said he was confident that the plate would be secure without the rear wall. The combination of four screws and the cross matter interface should be enough to keep things tight.
Anyway, the install work seems good. The plate appears to be fully seated against the slide with no visible gaps underneath and just a hair's width of a gap between the slide and plate behind the ejection port.

After deciding I was going all in on an RDS on my 1911's, I did a fair amount of research and shot a few classes with a TRP Op I picked up locally that had a CHPWS cut and cross plate with a Holosun 507c. No rub on C&H but I much prefer a direct mounted optic. After researching again and making some phone calls, I went with Green Tick Tactical Solutions. I could not be happier with the results....communication was excellent, price and work was outstanding, and turnaround time was super quick at approximately 3- 4 weeks. I have sent 5 DW 1911s to GTTS and all have been perfect on return. I have run more than 2K rounds through each of the pistols and the optics have been rock solid on all of them. I almost hate to recommend them as I don't want their turnaround time to go through the roof, but Jesse does such good work he deserves the business IMO.
