I may have to break out the popcorn, or at least a second cup of coffee.
This has been informative (especially about the FAL as well as the M14), and, at times, really funny.

When I shoulder an M-14 it feels like a rifle. It's heavy, it's long, and it has a little spunk to it when fired. I know this is certainly a subjective opinion, but that's the vibe I get from it.
An AR on the other hand is lighter, more ergonomic, and much less feisty when fired. Finicky more than an M-14? Eh, maybe so, but not enough to deter me from designating the AR as my go-to weapon.
As much as I like the M-14, my grab-and-go is a top-notch AR. With the best of modern ammo available in 5.56mm to feed them my AR's are what I would rely on if I had to. That said, I don't have any doubt that M-14 rifle would put down what I hit with it (assuming good shot placement of course).
Not sure how to measure "spunk". What unit do we use?
And what is the terminal effectiveness of "spunk"?
