The Model 727 is generally known for having the 14.5” stepped barrel profile that was a precursor and almost identical to the true M4 profile, however there are those who claim that some *very* early production Model 727s had 14.5” pencil barrels, and photos exist that appear to depict carbines with A2 upper receivers and 14.5” pencil barrels. But whether or not those are actually factory original guns or isn’t entirely clear. So the “pencil barreled R0727” is mostly anecdotal.
Ultimately when it comes to the 700 series carbines, the only rule is that there are no rules.
Notice that this one is so early that it is still using a late A1 lower (which is A2 marked).
