If I may ask, between the Sig 550 and HK 416 rifles, which would you choose, especially when it comes to accuracy and reliability?
Thanks.
Are you asking for use as a primary use rifle for serious work? Or are you just speaking about a fun blaster at the range?
I'm not sure a lot of people are going to have much first hand experience with actual 416s, let alone the ability to have side by side experience with them vs. a 550.
A few people here have 550s but that's about it.
Well I had an actual vented gas block 10.4 factory 416 upper and still own a Swiss arms 553. So...
Secretariat, do you literally mean the 550 or are you speaking of the 55X series of rifle of rifles in general?
So I'm one of those with zero experience with either. So I just looked up the SIG 550 and it appears to be a classic SIG military rifle, probably hard to find or get whereas the HK 416 is still available? I think? So given the choice I would go with the classic SIG because I can still get the HK.
Interestingly the 553 is readily available for order in the US in a semi auto military configuration while the 416 has never been available in the US in a military configuration. The closest thing is the HK MR556 which has a non chrome lined barrel blank instead of a chrome line barrel used on the military and European civilian rifles.
Both are fine rifles. I’m an unrepentant SIG-o-phile, and also love HK. I wouldn’t choose either as my first line go-to rifle. They are too expensive to beat up and for me are reference pieces that are used, but not abused. Well, my mr223a3 is unfired and will remain as such.
Both the 55x and 416 are highly reliable. Both are accurate.
The 416 is easier accessorized and has better ergonomics.
What is the context of this question?
55xx in general.
Thanks.
Primary rifle.
