How hot of a load would it take to push a 200gr Berger to 2900 in a 308? He must have been stomping on his brass pretty hard to achieve that sort of speed.

Which is why nobody makes short 6.5s currently. The 6.5cm isn't thrilling to me at all in a 24" barrel. Lop it down to below 20 and it makes no sense at all.
To me... choking an LMT in 308 down with a BRT gas tube makes most sense. You can tame that beefy recoil fairly easily.
We have a buddy shooting the 16 inch LMT in 308 with Sierra TMKs in 155 gr, and he tears it up out to 1300 yards. 6.5 suck balls at 1300 yards out of the best bolt gun.
Some non scientific data I’ve gathered in my 18” 6.5 creed gas gun (home build using aero parts and a criterion barrel 1:8 twist)
Factory S&B 140 averages 2589 fps
My 140 bthp handloads (42ish gr h4340) average 2582
My 123 Nosler CC handloads average 2708

The odd ball out there is Colt CM models made that run of 18’ in 6.5CM and mine is a laser. Would be very hard to find. LMT will run suppressed just fine, albeit gassy. If you want to tame the gas, Clint sells tubes for $75 to make it run like a dream.
LMT MWS 16 CL barrels tend to run MOA, not half MOA but right around MOA. The SS tend to be more accurate, but cost a lot more.
I think 6.5 offers the best selection for factory ammo. And you can run 120’s or 130’s for matches to increase velocity. Of course there is good factory ammo in 308, but I think 6.5 is more inherently accurate when 308 was once the gold standard.
The KAC people tout KAC over LMT because it weighs less and shoots softer. I wish I had one to see for myself.
I agree with you, most often the AR10 guns are hefty and AR15’s are more handy.
Pray the new Horndog ARC round comes to fruition. And runs successfully. That would be your answer but IMHO, that is two years out from being vetted.

Expect 2021 to have a few factory options for 16" and under 6.5 Creedmoor products from a few companies.
I have both an MWS and SR25 ACC and honestly they are equals and which one is better depends on use.
16 inch vs 16 inch 308 and the SR25 handles better and shoots smoother than the mws.
But I can make that 16 inch 308 a 13.5 inch 308 or a 20 inch 6.5 in about 60 seconds.
Both are great weapons

The BRT reduced gas tube deal can really help the thump on the MWS. Pappabear runs them. Our buddy I mentioned above, just bought on too. His load is hot, and he runs a can. He bought a tube one size too small, and was going to open it up a little to ensure reliability.
