They hack up historical rifles to sell as a questionable product. Ive read they also re-stamp stocks and proof marks, but never bothered to look since they suck either way

Do some research. K98s are all over the place. The ones around $700 or less are probably going to be Russian captures - nothing per se wrong with them, but waffenamts may or may not be intact on everything and may have additional Russian stamps/marks. For a decent non-capture, you're probably looking at $850 on the low end to $1200 for a nice one. After that, you really need to know a thing or two about them to ensure you're paying a fair price. More than a few have been swindled on 98s by unscrupulous sellers.
If one were to have a mitchells mauser side by side with an actual collectible WW2 Mauser, it would be a starker contrast than comparing an Olympic Arms M4gery to a actual Military Colt M4
Originally they started off by selling yugo m48s as WW2 era nazi guns, found in a warehouse out of the crumbled yugoslavia in miraculous condition! Spoiler alert: Not only was yugoslavia full of its own mausers, in mostly great condition but Zastava was still offering them in their catalog as new, well into the 2000s, maybe even still today.
At the same time mitchells was swindling many a distinguished elder out of $300 for one of these mausers, the very same guns flooded gunshows, mostly new, in cosmoline or at most lightly used for $50-80...with the full complement of accessories that mitchells claimed alone were worth several hundred bucks. I cant remember if mitchells threw those in or bent you over for those separately. Basicall all mitchells added was a certificate saying you bought it from them.... a glorified recipt.
Later on, after a suprisingly long run of that rackett they started getting a hold of russian capture k98s and then started their now famous manipulations to pimp these guns into the realm of being the gun collecting worlds' own Velvet Elvis. Literally the butt of nearly every joke in gun collecting and not limited to mauser collecting circles either. Mopeds, fat girls and poodles be damned... dont let your collector friends spot you with a mitchell mauser box
If you care at all about the future value of the dollars you wish to spend on a Mauser, dont buy one of theirs.

Avoid Mitchell's Mausers (and Classic Firearms) like the clap. I second the advice to go on K98kforum.com and do your research. Those guys are a WEALTH of info, and two of the moderators there have written the authoritative, multi-volume works of these rifles. The 'Picture Reference' sub-forum there is great as they highlight legit, verified examples as exemplars to compare others against.
Never mind already answered.
