I'll agree on using an A5 length receiver extension so you're able to use standard length carbine buffers. Armalite makes it even easier, as they have a relatively inexpensive kit that includes the extension, their spring, castle nut, H3 buffer, etc. I used this on my rifle length gas 18", no buffer or spring tuning needed.

Pointing to the “A5” receiver extension is actually very helpful. I happen to have an unused one. I also have a couple carbine/H-whatever buffers that I don’t use anymore for my AR-15’s.
On the BCG, I realized it is actually chromed rather than NiB. It was already purchased, so I’ll hold on to it. However, it does make good sense to just match a Brownells barrel with their BCG.
