mil dot and mil turret is preference. For closed turrets, I mights just leave well enough alone and figure out how to use it as is.
However, Changing reticle to Mil Dot is a very good option though. Its a 5.56 gun so a regular Mil will get you where you need to be for the most part.

Id vote velocity. Most likely you are going to find a round that fits with the rifle and leave it alone.

For me, mil dot. It's just easier. Or maybe I just know it better.

I appreciate the continued responses. I paid $1K for the scope, which seems to be a good deal for this particular scope. However, having to pay Nightforce $300 to change the reticle would negate the scope being a good deal. I'm going to play with it as-is for awhile. If I can't make it work, I'll just sell it and grab something else.

That's a $1,700 scope. You don't make decisions based on sunk cost. In my opinion. The mil mil Zero Stop is worth it. I have two scopes upgraded. One I did, another done by previous owner.
I really like both. And with these small turrets, ZS rocks. If you LIKE MOA, I wouldn't pay just TO get ZS, but if you like mil mil and want to change that and get zero stop, it's pretty nice.
Either way, you got one hell of a scope.
