The reason people are recommending the XPS/EXPS line is that the transverse battery mount eliminates that problem. Just sayin'.

Another factor to consider is the mounting solution. The integral quick detach mount on the OPMOD is fantastic.
problem is eliminated if you have the new battery piece, Eotech will give you one for free if you have the older parts
How would I tell, the manufacture date is march/2011. When I looked into the battery compartment the connections appeared to be a one piece design. Are these the new parts? I just got it today and took it to the range to zero, it worked great. I can officially say now I prefer the EoTECH reticle better than the standard aimpoint dot. So fR after a 150 round test im very pleased with the 517
Someone else should correct me if I'm wrong, but if your battery compartment is flat like this, you've got the better springs:

If it curves around at the bottom like this, you're in for some issues:

You can more easily see what I'm talking about on Brownells replacement parts page for EOTechs.

I don't think that's right. Here are some pictures of an old EOTECH of mine that failed in the usual way with the "good" battery box.

Okay
So, the springs came out of the back of the battery box and stuck themselves to the connections at the front? It's kinda hard to see what happened there. It almost looks like a battery acid leak occurred.
Eta: it doesn't help that I'm nowhere near my rifle. Can't pop mine open, and make some sense of what I'm seeing.
Gotcha. That's terrible.
OP, Lithium AA's are
1) much lighter weight, and
2) don't ooze like Alkies do sometimes.
They also have an extremely long shelf life and are impervious to extreme cold and heat. -40 f to 160f
Use lithiums and you'll be ahead of the power curve.
That EOtech sends Alkies in the case with their optics boggles my mind. It even looks like A0cake had those exact Alkies rupture in that sight. Energizer Indistrials?
