I met with the rep at Shot and bought some of these mags. I think they will do well and MAP is suggest at $19.00 apiece! This is a very good deal if you consider that it basically has a rubber buttplate on it.

None of the magazines you mentioned are required to fit inside an M-16/STANAG magwell. It is very well possible that if you are not constrained by pre-existing magazine dimentions, you could go with thicker walls, beefier ribs, etc, to achieve a durable translucent magazine. Question: Why didn't HK use plastic on their improved magazines for the 416, but they DID for the 417?
Not saying that is the reason, but it could be <A> reason...
I'm glad this new magazine is in development. As a consumer, I LOVE free market competition.
Not that I know anything about this stuff, but it seems to me that if a guy had a dump bag full of partially full mags after doing a few 'tactical reloads', it might be helpful to know how many rounds were in each mag when it became necessary to use them (i.e., out of full mags).
If a guy assaulted an objective, and were back in the ORP, and his squad leader asked for a round count, it would be nice to be able to look at the magazine and know how many rounds were left in it.
If the 'non-tactical' appearance bothers you, you could run strip of tape up the side, and apply your favorite shade of krylon to the rest of it.
i'm willing to give them a try. the green follower in the lancer is proprietary and not USGI. the USGI follower will not fit in the mag - they're sized and shaped differently. i like the idea of steel feed lips.

I think they look like a nice option as well. I'd try some out.
