Another 140 rds of M193 with no lube added.
It's shoots smooth-as-hell. .223 feels like it's not hitting the end of the RE...but it still locks back on empty every time.
I think I'm gonna take it to 1200 or a stoppage (whichever's first).
My Sarge just put a shit load of trainees on my plate so I'm gonna be busy as hell for the next 6 months. I'm not making any timetable promises. :/
Still, what i'm seeing is very encouraging. Remember, before I started this test, the LMT bolt hadn't been cleaned for 600 rounds and the carrier was filthy on the inside (looked like 300-500, my best guess....there were chunks of fouling). And the upper hasn't been cleaned since January (more than the bolt...maybe 800 rounds).
So the gun didn't start in a spotless condition.
Alright, update time. I'm going to be a little bit of an asshole and here's how.
I just received a newly manufactured LMT Enhanced Carrier. It is different from the one int he pictures on the first page of this thread.
I'm going to move the carrier I've been using (I'll call it a "gen 1") into my wife's PSA 14.7" CHF middy (also w/ Vltor A5 and Colt rifle spring. A5H3 buffer). I will not clean the E-Carrier before mating it with her bolt. Her bolt has about 400rds on it since her last cleaning. I'll also start running more rounds through her gun as a pseudo-continuation of my original evaluation.
The new LMT E-carrier is different from the original that I received (which was used and not new manufacture) in the following ways:
1) the 3 gas ports in the carrier appear to be slightly larger and the outside of the ports have been beveled (much like a pronounced muzzle crown).
2) There is an additional small hole that appears to protrude from the channel where the bolt tail resides. This can be seen in the scalloped region of the carrier, ejection port side, just aft of the 3 main exhaust ports. I haven't gotten my dental pick in there to confirm.
3) The carrier "rails" are now 8 contact patches that reside at the front and the rear of the normal location of the carrier rails.
4) The gas key came properly staked.
5) The finish is noticeably different (more light grey than near-black) from the gen 1 carrier.
6) The metal finish is noticeably more coarse...but not in a bad way. You can see that the surface of the metal is different...I'll try to get this to come out in pictures via macro. The finish and metal did still polish just-as-smooth as the gen-1 carrier using a felt dremel tip on low speed.
Pix to follow....hopefully tonight.
I have not cleaned my LMT std bolt...but the carrier is brand new and is, as to be expected, fuggin spotless. So any test of reliability (especially with the accumulation of fouling) has been reset.
Rounds 1-50 (maybe more) will be shot at my agency range tomorrow.
Interested in report; I couldn't get 2 rounds through my 14.5 mid, with A5 and LMT enhanced carrier today. Tried PMC, Wolf, ASYM, all the cheap stuff. It's my toy to see where the sweet spot is in stupid low recoil. Also has BCE 1.5- I ordered the A5H0 and H1 to see if there is any change.
