I saw this on his facebook page. It looks really good to me. Is the extention on the rail held on with the rail section?
Interesting. Looks like the handguard is one piece up to the front sight and sectional past that point; that could be a nice feature.
I'm just wondering how they pin the FSB on there with the barrel installed in the upper.
They're hiring ARFCOM members as colt. :(
For most users, longer FF rails, collapsible stocks, QD points, expensive optics, and all the rest of the stuff you think people buy just to look cool, is exactly that -- stuff to look cool in picture threads on ARFCOM. So you're right in a way.
But seriously, try to make an ATILLA-200 or a PEQ-15 and a Surefire light work on an M4 with a KAC RAS, for example. It really sucks.
For most people a rifle like the Colt pictured above is purely for cool points, but for others who have legitimate use of the features, it's nice to see Colt getting modern. What's the actual, practical downside to any of it -- besides that some people will drool over it because it looks cool?
Further proof that Mega halting production of their mono for their states reasons was absolute bullshit.
I don't know all the details, but perhaps the removable bottom rail section is the key difference. The Colt has it while the LMT and MEGA don't. Could that be the salient point in the patent which makes the two too much alike?
Just another thought -- MEGA is a relatively small operation compared to Colt. Maybe they didn't think the risk was worth the reward and don't have the legal apparatus in place to properly deal with it.
