From what I understand the USMC 3 gun team has been running them.

I'll give you three reasons why Colt isn't bothering with mid length gas systems. Firstly, the large majority of rifles Colt manufactures are 14.5" barreled M4 Carbines which have proven time and time again to be most reliable when a carbine length gas system is used. Secondly, if Colt uses the carbine gas system on all of its rifles it only has to manufacture one length of gas tube for all its rifles barreled 10.3" all the way to 16" which simplifies the supply chain some. Finally, the military doesn't want it and since Colt largely builds for contracts it makes no sense for them to make one.
Also, it should be pointed out that those three prototype marked rifles, according to SSD, were all piston system rifles. Also the rail extension reminds me strangely of a C8 rifle I saw awhile back. I will have to hunt down the pic and see if it is a similar/same design.
colt system is still 2 pieces so it doesn't break the patent LMT has but Mega's design is a one piece design that is where they screwed up. LMT has a patent on the one piece design.
Mixed feelings. Colt's Gasblock sight is still weird, and inferior to KAC, or PRI's offering.
They should just shitcan it.
IMHO the 6943 is Colt's best monolithic offering still.
koniz...as usual I appreciate the info. You don't post much, but when you do I almost always learn at least a little something new.
The thoughts from your particular unique perspective(someone who actually machined a ton of MRP chassis) on the new design of the LM8MRP/LM8MWS VS. the MRP/MWS would be invaluable to me, but that would be hard since you didn't make any LM8s.
At this point, and imho....the LM8 just isn't a finish product.
Agreed on the front sight. Add a low-profile gas block and a continuous 12 o'clock rail and we'd really be in business. I also wonder how the rail sections are attached. Steel inserts for the threads like the Geissele would have been nice, but that was probably never in the cards.
