The VIS-3 is going to be phased out in favor of the new VIS-KM (Keymod). They should hit the market soon.
Rainier Arms has one in stock. PM sent.
Crazy sales going on, but vltor still lists it as orderable on their store?
I thought, from the email, that it was more about another company discontinuing their use of them on some of their offerings or straight-up sales, and not that VLTOR was discontinuing them. Tempting, either way...
(I'm only not naming the 'other company' because no one else has and I don't know the protocol for that here.)
Stick, I received this info from a VLTOR dealer. If it's incorrect, my apologies for posting that.
the standard VIS is not being discontinued at this time and will continue production until the KM model is released, so there will be an overlapping phase. the intention is indeed to phase it out eventually and focus on the KM, but that's not going to happen anytime soon (it's frustrating vltor as well).
the obvious question that came to my mind was: how come vltor can continue production on the VIS and not just switch production to the VIS-KM? the answer is that the KM is made on different tooling that doesn't yet exist, and that's still in work. the prototype KM's you've seen pictures of were all machined from billet. the production handguard portions will be extrusions.
I am anxious to see some KM accessories, I imagine SHOT will be full of them. Magpul getting on the KM band-wagon would be good for the system.
Thanks for chiming in MM.
I think we will, its just a question of how many other manufacturers will beat Vltor to it.

As a fan of the VIS... I say:

Yep. Keymod is WOMEN ONLY! :D
LaRue index clips have made tubes "meh, okay" in my book. I really like how they feel, and I like that it gives me the versatility to use standard mounts. In time the KM may be g2g, but for now, it's a bit of a odd duck.
I'm very glad to hear that the regular Vltor VIS line won't be phased out any time soon.
I plan on selling off my LMT MRP (Rifle & CQB) uppers for a VIS-2 (or VIS-2A, I haven't decided) soon.
While the VIS-KM looks nice, I actually like the flexibility offered by the rails on the regular VIS line. If I want to relocate something to a different position, I just move it there. With the KeyMod, I'd have to first place a rail section there. And if I don't happen to have a section of rail with me... :(
Vltor cannot even get the Keymod out in the same year they said it would be out, how long, exactly, are mounts scheduled to take, and how long will they really take? I love Vltor's products, but they really seem to CONSISTENTLY drop the ball on delivery date.
I talk to noveske yesterday - no expected delivery till next year.
Sorry I was referring to the vis -km
Noveske is trying to pimp out their key mod
Right now- I'm sure the lowpro will go away also
Awesome! I certainly hope it is compatible with the 55W flux capacitors that will surely be the standard by then.
I guess I'm being a bit of an ass, but Vltor makes great products but seems to take FOREVER to deliver, and keeps saying "tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow" instead of just saying "Hey, it's going to be 8-12 months, but this WILL hit the street" and then making good on it within their time-line. Or they could just not announce it at all until it's about ready, like Surefire is starting to do with their suppressors, namely, the SOCOM. I thought that was a class act. I can buy one today, and they were only announced a about 6 months back, and for an item that requires paperwork for transfer and manufacture, that's pretty tits that it's sitting on dealer shelves right this second.
Yes, i agree - it'd be nice. But such is manufacturing and real life, when sometimes the best laid plans go awry.
Pushing a date back week by week is not a well laid plan going awry, it's blind optimism meeting reality. I could understand 1 or 2 setbacks, a few months apart, because of course life happens, but to continually weasel the date back? Again, I love Vltor's current products and know they put out top notch gear, I just hate how they have made a name for themselves as esteemed purveyors of vaporware.
