So no need for grease? I can just clean the thread and put the FH on, right?

I think the 'expiration date/retest date' is intended more for the specific uses the lube was intended for. Since that is an aviation/mil-spec grade lube linked above, I'm sure there are controls in place to make sure it will hold up under critical use.
I found this article, looks to be speaking along those lines. Retest Dates On Grease? Sounds like for the purpose of application to a bbl nut, the expiration date is pretty much a non-issue.
I use "Choke Tube Lube" to keep my choke tubes on my shot gun from seizing. It appears to be regular anti-seize. I have used it for years without any issues. Seems like a pretty similar application.
I bought my 8oz. can of Never Seize about 34 years ago (that's before my 30 yr old son was born). Used about 1/2 of it on all sorts of projects ie: if it threads together it gets some. Don't worry about some expiration date, mine works as well now as when I first opened the can. I suspect my grandson will finally finish the can off. That was really a once in a lifetime buy.
Anti-seize works wonders on FH. This way you don't have to crank it off like a S.O.B. after a little carbon buildup. I'm not so sure I'd use it on a barrel nut but hey I don't see why not....
For anything that may be hard to get off later I have been using C5-A for more years than many of you have been alive. From shotgun choke tubes to lawnmower blade bolts to bolts on a trailer that gets dunked regularly in salt water to flash suppressors. A very tiny dab will do and a tube will last a lifetime. I put a tiny bit on a toothbrush and brush into the threads then wipe the excess off.
The best combo I've found personally is Loc-Tite C5A for muzzle devices, and Aeroshell 33MS for barrel nuts and receiver extensions. I've also found that a tiny dab of the 33MS on the trigger/hammer interface works very well.
And for Markm and davidjinks, I have CDO. It's like OCD, but in alphabetical order like it should be!
