Going for the EXPS over the older designs is a step in the right direction. They do away with the Achilles heal of the Eotech product line which were they battery terminals in the old inline battery optics. I'd go with the single dot, hands down. I think the two dot reticle would be confusing. The tiny center dot is actually pretty effective out to 300-400m by itself.
The problem I see with BDC reticles like the EXPS 3-2 is the placement of the second dot is somewhat arbitrary. Even if you know the bottom dot hits at 500m with your load how will you know when the target is that far away? There isn't a way to accurately range a target out to, say, 500m with the Eotech reticle. Since you're basically guestimating your range anyway I don't see how the second dot, zeroed to a specific range, is going to be that useful. Just my two cents.
I'd be interested to hear from someone who's used the Eotech BDC reticle extensively and how they range with it and use the bottom dot, with or without a magnifier.
