Last time I talked to Geissele I was also told no KNS pins
I think KNS is going to make a version of pins that work with Geissele triggers, after their meeting at SHOT, this is what Tom at Spikes said on TOS anyway.
I'm coming into this thread very late, but seeing the understandably sorta' negative stuff about a rifle "nobody's ever heard of" (even though I realize a year or more has elapsed, now) I thought I'd weigh in on the Head Down rifle that I own. I have the HDxM4, which is their baseline 5.56 duty rifle, now called a "Triton M4" (the primary difference being that the slightly newer Triton designation utilizes a billet upper and lower rcvr., rather than forged). My particular HDxM4, the very first time I sighted it in with a "red dot" optic, knocked out a quarter-sized 6/7 shot group at 36 yards, even with the glaring deficiencies of the red dot optic at even that modest yardage. The lowest contrast setting completely pancaked the 1" black center square, of course, even at that range. I'd hate to be asked to duplicate that again, frankly.... lol...)
With no elaboration, the rifle seems to run on the range with my buddy's Colts, certainly at least in CQ-level accuracy and functioning, and overall it seems as solid as most any of the other perhaps more well-known mass-market M4-style pieces I've messed with or scrutinized, otherwise. (I particularly appreciate the 1 in 7 rate of twist of their barrels as standard, for helping stabilize the heavier 77 gr. rounds perhaps a bit better than the 1-9's, and sometimes 1-10's, so commonly seen in many off-the-shelf rifles, today. Coming from a heavier-caliber hunting rifle background, among other things, I naturally gravitate to the 77 grainers, and still feel like I'm shooting an oblong pea.)
Several months ago HD instituted their "Rifle for Life" program, making it retroactive to existing owners, as well as new. This is a "no questions asked" lifetime warranty program that comes with all of their rifles. Their lead armorer and all-'round nice fellow, Cody Evans, told me, "Mr. ____, your rifle is covered - anything that ever goes wrong, in any way - I don't care if you backed over it with your pickup truck - we'll take care of it, regardless of what is required." Between that and the fine performance of this weapon I've experienced thus far with light use, what more could I ask? No, I don't believe they're going to take any government contracts away from Colt anytime soon, but that doesn't mean they're junk. And this goes for several other companies I can name, too, that are building relatively decent rifles, all things considered, for the money... yet, the typical posting by others (who, you'll notice, generally only give rave reviews to what THEY own) will be mildly disparaging, at best. Very few civilians would ever have to run an "average" marketplace AR - even in emergency situations - to such an extreme level that it's likely (key word) to let them down. An example of another company that comes to mind that's building for the mass market (maybe a little more "mass market" than Head Down) is located here in NC, and is doing a decent job, is Del-Ton... but "oh, it has to be a bunch of junk!" to paraphrase some of the naysayers - and they've never owned, inspected or fired one, you'll note...). It's always easier to "be down on what we're not really up on".
"Yes" - in short, knowing that "we all start somewhere", I believe the boys at Head Down are working hard to be considered a serious manufacturer making a serious product in a now very competitive category, with as strong a warranty as anyone in the industry offers. I'm hanging on to mine without anxiety. H*ll, I may pick up one of those "low-class, only a rube would buy one" Del-Tons, too...
