I have a barrel that was factory pinned, but I never paid close attention to the pin style. Curiosity satisfied!

Correct,
Noveske uses straight pins.
They are a great solution for factory fitted gas blocks.
Straight pins require drilling and reaming to get the proper amount of press fit on the pin.
We supply our blocks with coiled pins.
Coiled pins require a quality drilled hole that does not need to be reamed.
A coiled pin is more forgiving and more easily installed by the DIYer that may not have access to good machinery.
Should the pin intersect an equal amount of the barrel to the gas block? That is, if drilling a .125" through hole, should .0625" transect the barrel and .0625" the gas block (at center axis)? Hope that question makes sense :)

Never thought of this before. I had to look at a couple of uppers I have to confirm and they both appear to be pretty centered, especially the ones on the FSB. I dont think it's absolutely necessary to be that precise, but, if you have the ability to do so, Why not?
