As I stated earlier, Springfield was King of the hill, best of the best, manufacturer of the M1 and later the M14, then the government didn't want those rifles anymore and Springfield had nothing else to offer. I see Colt now, where Springfield was.

I got busy. Got back State side from Somalia late 1993 with the 160th SOAR and received a promotion, and a leadership position with another aviation squadron, and then more deployments to places like Kosovo. Once I reached the rank of O-3, I spent more time away from CONUS than I would have preferred. Wife kept the Colt sealed up in the safe.
Retirement has been nice (no one shooting at you), but I work just as hard chasing cows on the hurricane deck of my quarter horse. In addition to the unfired 6520, I have 5 other ARs, all Colt except for one LMT sbr.
Absolutely agree. One would think that with so much money made off government contracts, they would spend a buck or two to try some new designs.
Just look how many successful firearms FN and HK released since Colt was milking the AR-15 and the 1911. They didn't even make a new pistol.
They became a dinosaurus that will go under the moment US military will replace the M4.
I agree with many of the posts here. The way I see it Colt is a main stay. They make a great rifle and you know what you are going to get when you purchase from them. The rifle is what it is. There are a lot of people who have made innovative parts and improved on a proven design, that is to be certain. But when you think of Colt you know you are dealing with a great manufacturer who stands behind their product.
This is why someone who posts "may have a good deal on a Colt, should I get it?" or "Colt, xcompany or xcompany...which should I get", you invariably get the Colt response.
I just got this from them today so it looks like they are trying to change things up for the civilian market: http://www.outdoorhub.com/news/colt-...-partnerships/
