An AR15 is like a 1911. I know one when I see it. It's like Kleenex. A Kleenex is just a brand of tissue. The AR15 is a brand name. AR15 was first built by Armalite who later sold the design to Colt. Armalite built the rifle originally as a select fire rifle. The military designated it the M16 then Colt marketed and sold it as the AR15, semi automatic civilian version. Colt is the only one today that uses the term AR15 on the rifles. The patent expired so many other companies make variants, just like a 1911.
all those people who poopooed california will probably have a new found appreciation for the californian ingenuity if a new awb passes.
any federal awb will be heavily influenced by the california awb.
californians have been forcing caldoj and atf to define assault weapon for years. once they did, workarounds were produced.
The best definition I could come up with is a technical definition in which the upper receiver of a given weapon can work with a standard AR-15 lower receiver and the lower receiver of that weapon can work with a standard ar-15 upper receiver. It's not very helpful though.
