I'm certainly not the expert, but I was in your spot a few months ago, only owning a 9mm given to me by father in law. I paid about 1.5 times the summer 2012 prices for a new colt 6929 and have slept very well since. Getting ammo and mags is a hassle, but It's coming along and I haven't paid crazy prices for those.(regular trips to dicks sporting goods has worked great) My two cents is that a national AW ban is least likely (I was more scared when I bought mine) but mag restrictions are only a matter of time. Ammo will be fine in due time. However I live in KY and feel just fine that nothing will happen on the state level...your state may be different with our dictator on the campaign trail. I think waiting a year could do wonders, but there is obvious risk that you may never get one...thus the conundrum. If you don't have a AR, you prob aren't familiar in what to buy and how to assemble, so just take the hit and buy one. The site below had one in stock this weekend, and while it's out of stock now on the website I personally talked to the guy and he has them in the warehouse but slowly releasing them to keep business on the up and up.

Not a deal, but I don't think 6920's will be found for under $1750 for a long time...so it depends on what it's worth to you.
Personally, I have developed a hobby that I can't get enough of...monetarily equivalent to a drug habit too! Regardless of when you buy the AR, you need to buy the mags now to be safe. It would be a shame if the ban went through in your state or the federal level and you had to throw the mags at the enemy as your defense. Check that site twice a day for the next couple weeks and I bet you find it in stock...make your decision from there.
