Oh, and when it comes to mags, sheet metal work isn't rocket science.

Yah, you can DIY anodize, but it isn't that common. Heck, you can also DIY plating as well, although, again, it isn't that common.
That said, not sure I understand the point. An aluminum part, even un-treated, still beats a plastic part IMO. And I suspect the 3D printed plastic probably isn't best of breed either (say, compared to what Magpul uses).
I'm not saying the 3D printers aren't cool. I'm just saying if I was building firearms parts, it wouldn't be my tech of choice.
