My point in the offers was that I do not believe these guns to be total losses, and although the loss of the pets and the other items is an obvious tragedy, I think something good should come out of this for the OP.
As to the rifle, I know I have a few excess parts laying around, I am sure some others here do too. The LPK, buffer and spring need to go for sure, as does any other steel hardware. The rest becomes a wait and see because a full inspection would tell.
Upper receiver, I would be inclined to replace it
Lower, refinish/Duracoat
and rebuilt
Barrel, refinish/Duracoat
after removing the muzzle device
Crush washer, replace
Muzzle device, refinish/Duracoat
, a little burn off and corrosion just gives them character
Gas tube and pin, remove and inspect, replace pin
BUIS, I am inclined to replace as tearing these down and painting them with all of their small parts is just too much labor
Receiver extension, Replace (too much paint on these makes sliding a stock difficult If you have a stock you think rides too loose, a couple coats of Duracoat is a cure)
Receiver end plate, refinish/Duracoat
or replace
Stock, replace (I list stock and receiver extension separately, as I don't know if the OP would go back to the original Magpul Stock.
Pistol grip and hardware, replace
Trigger guard replace,
Optic, replace
Light and mount, replace
FF Handguards, re-finish/Duracoat
If anyone wants to double check my list and offer alternatives, and or the costs of the replacement parts, please do, a collective effort won't hurt.
As for the pistol, I think the OP should contact "Mr. Smith" from Superior Firearms, as the work he has posted here is nothing short of art.
Feel free to add, bash, or offer alternatives above.
