I think rsilvers said that bbq paint is somewhat brittle. I'd guess that you could probably afford a fresh coat each range trip however.
Did I miss a thread where this was covered here?? If so, I look for it....
I hate dupes. :D
No. I think I saw it on SilencerTalk.
I have flat black Norrells on my M42000 Mod 07 right now. I haven't shot it much with it on there but it's easy to respray if it does in fact burn off.
I would say Duraheat or NIC Cerakote
here is a useful website for information.

Ionbond PVD or Melonite, anything else will be temporary and place you right back in the position after a few months.
I just rattle can it:

Be careful with tan though, you have to touch it up often if you are shooting high round count days...your tactical tan turns into "pretty pink" after your class is done :p
Yes Krylon is a poor choice to paint a barrel with, nevermind a suppressor

I've seen DuraHeat holding up very well for a friend.
There is no harm in trying various spray paints. You can always remove it later. I have not had luck when I tried high temp grill paint. It scratched easily and was not solvent resistant. I would suggest Gunkote or Moly Resin.
I think you should leave it as is and call it the "arctic can." :D

BBQ paint & so-called High Temp paint is simply what used to be referred to as 'straight enamel' - in other words, it's not acrylic.
Shivan,
I didn't shoot suppressed as much as you did for the class. I only shot suppressed on the last day (Sunday). But my Norrels on the can held up for the Falluja drill. I went through three mags and only participated once as a shooter not a rescuer (didn't want to hurt my bad back/neck).
I only sprayed the can with Norrels to cover up the scratches that I caused from using Channel Locks to tighten the can down on the original M42000 Mod 07 mount (Phantom type) because that was the only way I could get it to tighten down all the way. With the new Blackout mount it tightens down with just hand strength.
I just took these pics 5min ago.

At Auto Zone yesterday I saw Dupli-Color's high heat engine enamel. They have two types, one tested to 500 degrees, one to 1200 degrees. IIRC the can said they have ceramic stuff in the paint. For 6 bucks a can and 10 minutes of prep time, it seems like it'd be worth it to give it a try.
I used the DupliColor 1200degree on my Romanian SAR1 a few years ago. Outdoors up close it has a slide reddish color to it.

OK!!
I can't take it anymore!! WHY on God's greed earth would yooz guyz shoot your cans in class????
I mean... not everyone is canned, so you still have to wear ears. And why put the wear on your silencer like that?
So you gain experience with the rifle/can combo.
I knew you buttholes who have unlimited can access would chime in! :p
I hear what you're saying. But It took 151 days to get my M4-1000. So I tend to treat it like it's the last can on earth.
It's funny. I was talking to "Mudbug" from over on ARFcom. I asked him how many rounds he thought he had thru his YHM phantom 5.56 can (he's had it for years). Any way, he guessed he had 500 rounds thru it! I expected him to say like 5,000 rounds. He just never shoots it.
If I wasn't going to shoot them, I wouldn't have bought them.
If my rifle and gear can not stand up to a Vickers class, suppressor included, then why own it? No seriously, why?
The suppressor is fine, except for the finish. My teammates in the class appreciated the can... :D
I re-finished it last night. It might work, it might not -- but figured for $5.77 a can, I could do this re-finish a few dozen times without problem.
What did you end up picking?
Please tell me anything but black :D
Flat black. I haven't got the guts to do the "camo" yet...:p
Shivan, it looks good repainted, but why not just let it be?
If I kill it again, I might leave it alone.
Edit: This way, people think I don't really shoot -- just have cool shit. :D
So will that work the same as "racking my 12 gauge?"
If a BG breaks into my house and my weapon is all shiny and new vs being worn and beat-up from use and training, will the BG be more likely to continue his original plan?
IOW will just the sight of my clearly "used" weapon be enough to scare off BGs? :D
Buckaroo
Who has an inquiring mind.....
No, you need your 15 mag chest rig to get him to reconsider. I actually wore one once and had a broom in my hand and the two bad guys dropped the TV and ran screaming, one leaving a peepee trail behind...
:D

There's nothing wrong with having nice things that look nice. It looked ate up the way it was before. I would have painted it too. Not black though.
It looks good Ed. My big concern was that if you put the paint on too thick it would obscure the s/n or something. Did you use regular Krylon or something special?
