Ladders often aren't nearly enough, in those environments; not enough material, and made of material that's too soft. The only form of protection they provide is to one's hands from rail corners; beyond a certain point, they provide no real protection to the rails themselves.
Love the LaRue clips. No cutting, modular, great solution for running cables (if you need to run cables)....
