I had the same issue on my 10.5" bbl. I had to use the spare shims out of a .308 brake from SureFire. They have a larger internal diameter than the AAC shims. Hope this will help ya out.

Our Colt 901 had what I think is the problem you are describing. No matter how many of the supplied shims I put on, it didn't change the rotation of the brake enough to be timed. There are a few models of guns out there, which have the shoulder of the muzzle set back further, causing this issue. It's not LMT's fault, it's just the AAC Brakeout was made to a "standard" dimension.
I called AAC and was told it was OK to put additional shims on until the brake was timed, and locked up against the shoulder of the barrel. I didn't really want a bunch of smaller shims all stacked up, and was sent a much thicker washer. Using the thicker washer, and a couple of the shims, I got it timed and locked up tight. Using a bunch of thin shims, or shims in tandem with a larger washer, the result is the same.

was afraid the .223 kit wouldn't slip over the threads and/or this damn obstruction i've been dealing with thus leaving me in the same predicament; therefore, I got the .308 kit AND the .223 kit....
only 4.95 each.......i hope they're machined to tight tolerances so brake isn't thrown out of alignment.
i reckon we'll find out when first rounds go through can.
I use the PWS indexing kits all the time. They are good to go, I actually prefer them to the ones from Surefire and AAC.

How about some pictures? It could be a multitude of things.
No one threads barrels all the way. Every barrel I've ever owned has a little shoulder or whatever you want to call it where the threads stop.
I had some issues installing a SureFire brake on my last Noveske barrel and I ended up running a tap through the brake and it removed some excess material and then the brake threaded on without issue.
If the issue is the shims not going all the way back, you need the beveled shim or whatever you want to call it. All SureFire brakes come with this shim.
My Noveske SS barrel is threaded all the way. So was my last BCM BFH barrel. Hell. My first rifle 12 years ago was too and it was a ****in Armalite.
I do need either a thick shim (.308 from what I understand so it'll fall OVER the threads and onto the flat against the shoulder), this beveled shim from SF which is like finding a unicorn horn or like Robb mentioned send it back to LMT.
Going to see how these shims from PWS perform. With my luck, they'll either be too thin or too thick.
Amazing machining. I guess they figure because they provide you such an awesome "monolithic platform" that they can afford to stick an Olympic Arms grade barrel inside.

Check out the SECOND picture. Not sure what kind of cut rate, half assed job this is but needless to say, if their MRP barrels cost as much as they do, either they or whomever they're sourcing them from are makin a ****in killing cuz they sure aren't spending any kind of time on them.
