I'm trying to reconcile Larry's endorsement with what can only be described as a dismal performance test result. He calls it, "one of the best current offerings on the market today." Perhaps he knows about more favorable testing results that were not released to the public?
Tim Lau of 10-8 apparently was given an example of the actual military version (supposedly there is some difference). He seems to indicate that it has been reliable and passed the extraction test.
I think the m45 is a lot of hype and "butthemiliartyusesitsoitmustbethebest". The M45 does not offer anything aside from the dual recoil spring set-up and a beefed up frame. Oh and an atrocious cerakote tan.
For the money I'll take a Les Baer.
The currently available 226, and most of Sig's commercial line up, are now manufactured in Exeter NH. There have been wide spread reports that since Sig started to make the guns in Exeter, the quality of the builds have dropped.
I don't remember exactly when the switch took place, but it was post '04.
How have people been getting these? Calling up Colt Custom Shop and placing an order?
One of the few "objective" post on the M45A1. Very few people have insight on the selection process of gear within the DOD.
This thread has definitely brought out the "we hate the 1911" but offer zero objectivity crowd.
In time- perhaps the HK45C that NSW is now fielding will become standard within SOCOM/JSOC. As a mass issued .45 it is a no brainer.
Rana, not to hi-jack the thread, but why did NSW go with the .45acp round instead of sticking with the 9mil?
