Yep. Unfortunately, I lost this battle. The upper is on the way back to the manufacturer for inspection. Pending their response, I'll update the thread appropriately.

Unfortunately in some cases the barrel nut will get stripped of the wrench will fail. Or you will damage the upper as it happened here. This is why I opted not to tempt fate and I cut it off. 7.00 nut vs. 100.00+ upper.
Matt, hate that it happened to you like this...good learning experience, though, I guess. Since it was twisting in the receiver block, I cannot really say much, but I do think this lends a bit of credence to my theories about the GRR...not that I still wouldn't like to have one and I do believe it's a useful tool...I just look at the forces present in that situation and think that there ought to be a combination receiver block and reaction rod type tool that would work for everything.
IG...do you have PM's turned off? I sent you one looking for some pin data and didn't hear back.
Hey Josh, I found this a while back on Biggerhammer.

Update: the upper was sent in to BCM for inspection by the owner of the upper. After a few questions on the disassembly and the issue encountered, they requested that he go ahead and send it in. BCM turned it around and had it shipped back within a couple of days. There was no notation regarding what work was performed. A visual inspection by the owner indicates that the upper receiver was replaced and the upper was rebuilt by BCM using the original barrel and the new rail. Everything appears to be in working order and will be test fired later this week. Kudos to BCM for going above and beyond for replacing the upper receiver and turning it around in an exceptionally short timeframe.
Fantastic mtdawg. Paul is hard to beat when it comes to taking care of his customers.
