I'm a big fan of VuurwapenBlog... He's pretty down to earth and no non-sense
Godd stuff but it makes me feel like I teleported back in time. I thought this was all common knowledge now..
I also watched his "How Many Guns do You Need" video. I wish there was something along the lines of "How Do I Set Up My AR?" video, so I don't have to keep explaining and justifying this to newbies who ask for advice... :(
This and some of his other videos would actually make good stickies on the site... Some of the new guys just dont take the time to read and while i dont encourage that at all, videos might help encourage them to actually go into the stickies before posting all sorts of stuff.
I hope we never get past that here. I would hope that there are new AR-15/M4 platform shooters interested in really learning their rifles. I have several AR-15 pages liked on Facebook. Any time some one has a question about the platform I send them here and tell them to join, search, and read. It is always good to get new blood in.
I watched that one too. I agreed with it totally, but for some reason I sold my 22 rifle earlier this year and haven't found a replacement yet. I'm technically 7 for 7 but I don't really count my little girl's youth model 22 bolt action rifle as my 22 rifle of choice...
Andrew has some funny parody videos too worth watching. His AR info is just that, information. Good starter video for someone about to purchase a true POS.
While I do not use my rifle to defend or save lives on a daily basis, I did not purchase a top tier AR. I also didn't buy a bottom of the barrel POS.
I will upgrade as time and need permits but I hate to buy a complete rifle and give Uncle Sugar that 11% tax. I will purchase an upper and a lower then snap em together.
I still gotta get an M&P17 Warrior that he showcased a while back. It's pretty much the bald eagle of handguns.
I think this sentiment here is part of the issue though.
Us vs. them.
People don't know what they don't know. This goes for anything. A lot of people on here could school me on the more intricate minutiae regarding the AR platform, detail knowledge I am not even close to having. Likewise, I could probably school a guy or two on here about conducting a deliberate attack with a mech inf platoon against a prepared enemy position.
That really doesn't say anything about us though, if we are better or worse than the other person.
Sure, there are people who will let ego stand in the way of reason and fact. The fact still remains that if you bash those people you are no better than the ones who swear that their AR is the best.
Why not try to help the ones who don't know, but are just proud to have bought their first AR? Instead of critiquing them on buying a DPMS or Stag or Oly or whatever they bought. Maybe they are unsure about the amount of devotion they want to put into it? Maybe if they are motivated to try shooting, they will be motivated to switch to a quality brand somewhere down the line?
Now, I am not advocating that people buy "hobby" guns, but if they are met with "Oh my *#¤%&" god, did you buy a ¤&/"#% POS DMPS!!!!!!? You are a #"#%¤¤ retard!!!" comments, it is understandable that they take offense.
I started doing this with people who glorified military service, people who had unrealistic expectations about military service, people who perpetuate rumours as fact. I told them facts, and explained how it actually worked. I did not berate them for not knowing.
What percentage of AR owners, or gun owners for that matter, in the US are as serious about guns or training as many of the guys on here are?
I've always liked the Vuurwapen series of videos. Seems like a guy I could hang out with.
