Now I am even more confused here. The lower you have is most likely the large pin (.169) FCG. So did he just happen to have some lying around? Did you reinstall the KNS crap?

Yes, it is a large pin colt. Yes, he did have spares. I didn't even think to ask if he would, but now that you mention it, I am wondering where they came from…
I don't use kns pins. I bought a set a while ago and did not use them. When the issue started I tried them out just because it was the only spare part I had around. Call it a Hail Mary pass.
As it is now, I am NOT running the pins, but I did try them out of curiosity and it worked fine with them.
Did he give you back the old parts? A comparison or measurements would be interesting.
The gunsmith comes in to an lgs for a few hours a couple of times a week so I had to drop it off on my way to work and pick it up after. I didn’t meet him personally and when I picked it up the shop owner did not have the old parts. I’ll try to go there on Monday when the gunsmith is there and see if I can get them. I’ll post pics, measurements, etc. if I can.
I own a couple of other AR’s (Colt and PWS SBR's), but I’m not an AR expert by any means. By my estimation the rifle is good to go, but how would you guys feel about it?
Couple things, by not knowing the cause/remedy you will forever wonder, as will people reading this thread. And if it happens again to you and there is no gun smith handy, how will you remedy it the second time?
Colt is un-arguably the top tier of all tiers. The answer as to what caused the failure should also be top tier...
