Installing a rail that utilizes standard barrel nut
Okay, forgive my noobism here. I could be trying to complicate something that should be easy.
I have a 14.5" BCM upper with pinned muzzle device and standard front site post with MOE handguards. I know... I thought I had done all the research I wanted to do before deciding on this upper. I didn't realize what a pain changing rails would be.
Anyway...
Couldn't I install say Samson Evo Extended rails by removing the barrel and installing the rails from the "rear" of the barrel?
Since the rails require a bushing on the barrel nut I think the rails would slide over the barrel nut with out the bushings there.
Bear with me here.
I can't unpin the muzzle device. Instead, knock the pins out of the FSB, slide it forward to the muzzle device to get it out of the way. Remove the barrel.
Cut the delta ring, weld spring and snap ring.
Slide the rail on over nut and push them forward to the dangling FSB.
Re-install barrel.
Apply bushings and slide the rails on.
Re-install FSB.
Done.
Am I crazy? :help:
