The problem is that the AUG really isn't really superior in any areas. You just think it is.
But never done any training with the AUG though correct?Quote:
Sure, I have taken entry and search classes in the military and as a Federal LEO, I have also participated in exercises as a range safety officer and a firearms instructor... and a student. Then one time I picked up an 11.5" SBR AR and was struck by its compact size and how much easier it was to maneuver in close quarters... like a house for instance. I then considered how the length of a Bullpup 16 inch would be about the same length (if not shorter) and how I wouldn't need to wait for a tax stamp or pay an extra 200$. I used my past experience and training to come to the conclusion that an AUG would be an excellent HD/vehicle rifle while simultaneously comprehending that I would be sacrificing some advantages that an AR provides.
Ever switch shoulders and shot your AUG??
Honestly speaking, I have TONS of defensive and offensive room clearing experience under the supervision of the best CQB instructors on the planet. Never once did I come to the conclusions you have. On top of that, these same instructors have NEVER advised a student running a 16" AR to switch over to an AUG.
That is fine, but it isn't actually true in this case. You have defined that your TWO primary concerns are HD and Vehicle ops. Based off these two areas of concern, you have come to the conclusions that the AUG is the best choice for two reasons. They are compact size and reliability.Quote:
The Straw Man fallacy is committed when a person simply ignores a person's actual position and substitutes a distorted, exaggerated or misrepresented version of that position. This sort of "reasoning" has the following pattern:
Person A has position X.
Person B presents position Y (which is a distorted version of X).
Person B attacks position Y.
Therefore X is false/incorrect/flawed.
The straw-man fallacy never makes anybody feel good but the person creating the straw-man

The problem is that you put a very high rating on these PERCEIVED advantages. So much so that you missed all the negatives of the gun and have chosen it over the better weapon.
As an AR builder, I see countless buyers configure AR's for something they only do 5-10% (ignoring how they use the gun the other 90-95%). This is simply moronic.

Let's try to get this one back on the original topic, if possible.
If further discussion on the AUG is warranted or desired, it would almost certainly be better-suited to a more focused thread (new topic), versus this running sidebar/glancing blow.
Thanks,

Well C4Grant I want to thank you for your integrity, undistorted portrayal of my position and not moving the proverbial "goalpost" all over the place and as a true professional, not resorting to juvenile Ad-hominem attacks or insinuations.
Your revelation of this revolutionary "shoulder switching" have made me a believer. I just tried to do this "shoulder switching" with my AUG and I took out a non-supporting wall in my house. Not once in my many years in the military or a Federal LEO has anyone ever touched on shoulder switching, thank you for clearing that up. I have never had an instructor recommend an AUG either by the way or have any of them say "use the weapon that works best for you". In consideration of your recommendation my AUG has been relegated to boat rudder duty.... where it belongs.
Bringing this thread back to the original topic......I am sure the O.P has made a wise decision in considering the virtues of a DI system rifle. One cant go wrong with the purchase of a Colt. The DI gun has served in good stead for decades and I am sure it will continue to so for many years to come.
C4Grant I hope you read through the entirety of this post before you have it deleted so that my deferral to your position can be made clear.
A Café Breve sounds really good to me right about now.
Oh, and this one is done.
