The point is that the 6920 SOCOM was marketed as a clone for the guys who wanted that M4 "look." It was for the people who either wanted a rifle that looked like the one they had in the service or those who like .mil clone weapons. Colt charged a premium for the rollmark, heavier barrel, Matech sight, and KAC rail.
They then changed the features with no warning and people spending quite a bit extra for that clone rifle.....just found themselves buying a rifle that is no longer a clone. Sure, they can still buy the rifle and sell the Troy/buy a KAC....but they're still paying the $1500ish price for what was supposed to be a specific set of items. That is the crux of the issue.
And for your fishing comment on MI, no your rail is not the same as a Knights Armament, Centurion, Geissele, Noveske, etc rail. I didn't see where anyone said it was junk...but it is most certainly not in the same ball park as higher end rails.
