Wow! Yeah, unique, thats one way to put it.
It looks like one of those custom chopper builders made that one, PJD maybe??
NYH1.
I prefer the zombie hunter tube. Some people survive a zombie apocalypse, others actually take the fight to the zombies.
Gun grabber fodder. Part of the reason why people don't take gun owners seriously.
When I saw it the first thing I thought of was something a person would do to a a paintball marker not a real rifle
The optic should be a clue.
Coming soon to a DPMS rifle near you...
It's stuff like this that just give the grabbers an image. Something that does absolutely nothing to enhance the rifle, but it sure "looks scary." While those in the know just shake their heads, because it doesn't look scary, it looks stupid.
HFS - $250 for the 12" tube. For that money you can buy a decent tube...
With respect, I don't buy this argument. To me it's the same as folks saying that we shouldn't say assault rifle...meh. Those that are pushing gun control don't care what it's called, and most of the masses are utterly ambivalent about gun control either way. Most of the died in the wool anti's are far more concerned about folks like us who put military grade parts on our rifles. They find that far more disturbing than some dude with spiders or zombies.
Either way, I'm not for stifling anyone's creativity because some nanny doesn't like it.
You kidding me? McCain needs a new pair of depends after that one...
I can agree that being told what to do or not do due to someone else's personal issues is garbage. That said, I can't imagine the black widow tube buyer being that serious about anything other than how kewl his safe queen / range toy looks. I stopped going to the local range with that crowd. They tend to be jackasses in more than just their firearms accessories...
eh.. I've seen worse.
Not wanting to bash anyone but, im not sure why people are so quick to bash others? Some may find this silly, others might think its unique. Like owning a car, youre free to mod it anyway you want. Im not supporting these products, im just saying
Skulls man, the chicks dig the skulls on my AR.:help:
This is the internet, that's just what people do. Free float tubes are all the rage for 3-gun right now. It either has one design or another.Quote:

Damn that's tactical
I'd have to say that would never go on anything I own
No worse than the pink furniture many members buy...:D
I'm sure it's not in the same league as a Noveske, KAC, DD, etc. rail, but this one actually doesn't look too bad as far as the hexagonal design goes:

Since when have guns not been a piece of art that was functional? Is this any different then your high end engraved Colts from the 19th century? Presentation pieces? How about the fancy wood grips, or grips made out of exotic materials on many a 1911. I shoot trap and my trap gun has some chicken scratch on it, my father's Franchi AL48 Hunter's model has an entire scene engraved on one side. I don't see these tubes as being any different. I don't see myself ever running one, but some it may be the thing that they want for one reason or the other. I have a BCM build which has all OD green furniture on it, does that fact make it a lesser rifle because I am running full on OD green everything I can? Obviously there is a market for the things, people like to be different and have something that is original, its human nature. Besides, if the rifle is getting the attention of those who want to dress one up at a presentation piece I would say that is a good thing for the AR market, at least looking at history and the presentation pieces that we see today in museums.
and here we go
Not for me but I figure that if it doesn't hurt reliability and accuracy, it's no big deal. Fashizzle........ Now about them 20 inch spinners on a Dodge Neon.......
Bad Spelling!
I know guys whose sisters, wives and/or GFs ask for the pink stuff. On the functional side of things, the pink magpul stuff works the same way their tacticool colored stuff works so saying it's like the pink stuff isnt entirely accurate. As ugly perhaps but not an apples to apples comparison in terms of function and reliability.
That said, I dont know exactly how this thing attaches but it appears to have a doube-threaded barrel nut and mounting collar combo.
Yeah, that hex actually doesn't look too bad - and it is quite efficient because hexagons use the least material to tile a plane. (A rail with hex holes can be made lighter than a rail with round holes). I just went with a carbon fiber rail because I don't get the key mod craze.

Honestly though of jessie james (west coast choppers style) when i saw those handgaurds. Id rather have a MOE handgaurd and more ammo for the $.
AR have officially turned the corner on the tactical market, and have now become fashion statements. It's been an incremental creep in that direction over the past few years. AR owners buy them with crappy logos, paint them, accessorize them, show them off, put goofy shit on them all the time. It was only a matter of time before someone started to really bling them out commercially. This is merely an extension of that. Same with pistols. Stay tuned for more ghey shit to hit the firearms market.
I'll have to admit that I'm in the process of building a "halo" AR. It will be highly personalized and have a lot of form, but none of which will preceed function. It will be for my asthetic appreciation as well as any conceivable use I could or would put it to. Perhaps some will appreciate it, some won't. It matters not to me. So long as it serves me well and doesn't detract from the intended use, I can't imagine why it would cause anyone else heartburn. To each their own. :D
I can see wanting something kind of "one off" to have your AR match a chopper or some other hobby you're into.
I think these are in the novelty category and I don't think people are putting them to hard use.
I could be wrong...
I hate being noticed by people, especially at the range, unless the person is cool.
I always feel that being the youngest gun owner at the range, the older crowd will take me for a Mall Ninja for having a light on my gun. Though I would not care if they did, since everything on my guns were put on there after I found out I "needed" them. It was very hard to shoot in the desert mountains at night without a WML :D
I also painted my AR's to my liking, FDE and Tan, plus they about perfectly match the horrid desert dirt, and the nice mountain dirt.
Spiderman Model?
I tend to agree with this post, while certainly not for me; I don't see any harm in others choosing to "trick out" their AR.
Clearly there is a line of demarcation between those who would consider their weapons as just that weapons (tools) and those who might place them in the category of a "toy" (like a sportscar, etc). Fortunately I don't think that the lines have blurred much (yet!), and the favored makers on this board are certainly not catering to the toy crowd.
Unless youre the guy who shows up to the range with a gaurd like these, dressed all tac'd out with a 20 mag chest rig that you only use to come out to the range, id say your quite ninja, BUT if you come out with said handgaurd, shoot tight ass groups at 100 like a boss, have only the essential equipment on. Id shut up and watch you shoot and ask for tips lol.
This rail is clearly aimed at the guy that goes to the range as a hobby. Same with any other hobby...
I can't help but compare it to the guy who shows up at the motocross track on a practice day. His bike is all black, and is covered in $600 worth of Monster Energy graphics. Some of the serious racers laugh at him, and he's not the fastest, but he's out there just turning laps and having a good time.
takes all kinds...
Not my taste, not my speed, however; doesn't mean someone couldn't or shouldn't buy if they wanted. I'm not paying for it.
