I recently purchased the Nikon P-223 3-9 scope for my AR. I know the M223 is slightly different, although I'm not sure what or how much is different, but I absolutely love it. It has the BDC reticle, which is very nice for quick distance shots without having to adjust your dope. For the money ($200), I'm very impressed.
Thank you for all for your replies. If anyone else has experience with the above mentioned scopes your input will be greatly appreciated. Feel free to vote if you have an opinion.

Yeah, that one is a little too high. Thanks for the thought though! I do love the firedot, I have the Leupold 1.5-4x20 Mark AR with the firedot spr reticle. It now resides on my BCM. This will be going on my 20" PSA for multi-duty. I'm still looking but haven't decided yet.Quote:

I went with the Bushnell Throw Down 1-4x...I like that it has 30mm tube,, FFP, and Illumination.
I connected on a few at 500 or so, yeah it's not the best but possible. I don't do it all the time but the option is the point. My batting average isn't great but a miss is a learning experience just like a hit. Others have done it also. Just check youtube, it has thousands of videos on this very subject. Guys shooting pest animals (coyote, prairie dogs, groundhogs, boar, etc.) at longer ranges happens all the time.
My reloads at 600 yards still have a hair over 200 ft lbs of energy, that's more than a .22lr has at the muzzle. You have guys (even little girls) shooting hogs with .22lr at closer ranges. Is that optimal? Personally, I don't want to be that close. Hogs are very dangerous animals. While not ideal at longer ranges, it's more than possible. Besides, why practice shooting longer ranges if you never put it to practical use?
Well the PA 1-6x came out today. Now that all of the scopes I'm interested in are available it's decision time. I'm hoping to find someone who has tried the PA 1-6 out before I consider buying it. The Leupold is looking like my first choice now though. The weight is nice but the length is a little over what I would like. Unless the PA gets a few stellar reviews then the Leupold will be my choice.
The Nikon kind of lost out because estimating a targets range with the reticle for fast shots kind of sucks. The Burris lost out for the same reason. The Redfield is ok for the price and what it is. I like it, I have one on my budget Savage .243. I feel it's just too long and heavy for my ARs. My Savage .308 has a Vortex 4-16x44 Viper HS-T which is perfect for it. They are well built, but they are heavier than the Leupolds, and they cost almost the same.
Hopefully someone gets a review out on the PA in the next week or two so I can complete my decision.
