Does anyone know if the keymod hardware can be bought by themselves? The polymer NSR keymod rail covers aren't doing it for me and I want to experiment with other rail covers.

Here's a list of companies that offer KeyMod accessories and components. At this time, only KAC offers rail panels:
Noveske Rifleworks
CMMG Inc.
Knight's Armament
Impact Weapons Components
Mega Arms
Haley Strategic Partners
Parallax Tactical (Low-Profile Keymod Picatinny Section)
Strike Industries 1913 rail sections, Nylon and Aluminum.
Primary Weapon Systems (PWS) 1913 Rail Sections, Bipod Adapter
Mr. K forgot to mention that BCM has some cool chit coming out as well. ;)

I was unaware that knights had rail covers. Maybe I should wait and see what the future brings since so many companies have gotten on board with the keymod.

Iirc the KAC covers only cover one keymod side, whereas the BCM and Noveske covers each actually cover essentially 2 sides of an octagonal rail. The Noveske ones are like 1/2+1+1/2 while the BCM ones are 1+1 if that makes sense. That means if your diagonal sides don't have keymod (like the NSR), the KAC covers, if I remember correctly, won't cover your entire rail with polymer.
Man those things are kinda homely. I'm gonna need some Stickman shots for those to grow on me.
You could paint them to match your skirt :D
Can't beat the price of the BCM Keymod covers. I hope they work with the NSR. From the looks of them they will be a good candidate for a nice stippling job.
My understanding of the open source keymod concept is that all keymod works with all keymod. The only possible hiccup I see is the ones that cover more than one side may possibly need a bit of trimming if anything.
I just stumbled across this thread, and its exactly what I'm looking to do - come up with a more robust design keymod cover...
I am trying to come up with the best way to mount a set of KAC rail covers to my NSR rail. The keymod covers that are currently available on the market today are more than disappointing...
I'd rather build my own anyway - that way no one else has anything like it. ;-)
I'll try and attach an image to show my current mock up.
All I have done so far is use a set of keymod pic rail sections to mount the rail covers, but as you'll see in the picture they sit way too far off the rail to be useable.
I plan on milling the rail sections down to make them thinner - thus drawing the rail covers closer to the actual rail.
Once the rail sections are milled, they will essentially no longer function as intended (because the bottom of the rail section which has the locating tabs will be gone).
So some sort of shouldered nut will be needed to act as the anti-slide / locating mechinism that interacts with the larger circular portion of the keymod hole....
I have a feeling that these will need to be custom made, and probably expensive.
I'll have almost $100 tied up in the rail sections alone, then no telling how much in mating and fasteners...
But I think something better needs to be developed - as far as I am concerned the stuff thats out there is a joke (on par with air soft).

I ordered some of these and some two tone G10 and plan to give DIY a shot.

cool! Post some pics as things progress, this whole key mod thing is pretty cool, and I'd love to see some custom covers. I really dig G10 also.
Wait till it's done ;-)

Here is a better picture, I dont think its too much overkill??

Interesting ideas guys. I have a couple keymod nuts on the way, I'm going to do something similar to what I did for a URX2LW(pic below). Something you experimenters should keep in mind is that unless you have something behind these rail panels, they could slide backwards since there are no lugs to keep them in the key slots. I'm not sure I would depend on the keymod fasteners alone. The panel I'm making will be backed by a handstop, so it can't move rearward. I'll post a pic next week when it's done.

Oh, I totally get it.
Thats why I am looking for a sort of shouldered washer (or a modified nut) that is internally threaded, and has a shoulder on the O.D. that would interface with the larger circular portion of the keymod hole, keeping it from walking back or forth...
I suppose I should try and draw something up to illustrate my point better. (see below)

anyone know if there a Keymod vertical grip out?
I've never seen one, I think the expected procedure would be to purchase a pic rail keymod section and mount to the pic rail...
But because I've never seen one doesn't mean they don't exist...
We have a pretty nice KeyMod Hand Stop that is pretty popular, and we also have vertical grip on the way too!!

I said I'd post back with the results of my rail cover attempt. It was a failure. Keymod nuts are too long, and there is no "squared" recess in the rail panel to keep the nut straight, nor is the rail panel thick enough. I tried cutting the nuts down to about half height, but still no joy. I ended up using weld nuts, which worked very well.

Interesting. Do you have any pictures of the weld nuts you used?
Nice pictures of the KAC keymod panels. How do they fit together if you position another at 90 degrees?
Does anyone have any pictures of the MI keymod panels on their rail? https://www.midwestindustriesinc.com...tegory_ID=1246
Our new key mod panels use a mechanical system to fasten them (modified key mod nuts) . They are now available in black and we are running several other colors. They work on our SSK hand guards in both 5.56 and 308 versions as well as the KMR and NSR hand guards .

And....... just ordered 3 5 slot panels. I can't wait to try them out.
Those are by far the best looking options so far.
Sorry no,The hand stop like most all key mod accessories is directional. Could could just run a hand stop with a 3 slot panel in front of it for the same effect ?
thanks
