What's the grand exception granted to the DEA?

Why Just the DEA? While FA weapons have a limited number of applications for civilian LEOs nearly all fall within the SWAT/SRT realm. For some patrol functions in truely remote areas think Border patrol / BLM Rangers etc. )I could see it but normally the level of sustainment training needed for maintaining FA competency just isn't there outside SWAT/SRT.
Help me understand... Are you saying rifles have no place in urban LE? Using a rifle does give you the advantage of being able to engage at longer distances. Heck, some of the Indian country offices in the FBI now have LaRue .308's with Nightforce optics because of the vast expanses of terain.
But having a rifle is about having a small arm that quickly and effectively stops a threat. Handguns are defensive and in general suck at stopping a determined human aggressor. That doesn't even include bad guys who are behind cover. If I'm going into a situation where violence is a possible outcome, I'm bringing my rifle. I don't care if the bad guy is in the same room.
I don't have the actual numbers, but most LE snipers engage bad guys inside 75 yards. That's why I am cautious about putting a distance number on something like rifle use. That goes for LE and private citizens.
I've put 10,000 rounds through my entry tactical with no issues. How many of you have even owned a RRA or bushmaster?
They are considered crap by forum commandos and those who generally don't shoot.
That being said is it my primary?
Nope my 10.4 hk416 is my go to hell rifle but the RRA has made it through class after class with no issues.
Just my 2 cents.
That and .98 will buy you a cheeseburger
There are knowledgeable people who don't' like RRA, BM, etc, etc, referring to all the critics as "forum commandos" is high-risk.
I think the faults of these guns gets amplified by endless repetition and exaggeration. I think a lot of the faults are not likely to be repeated.
I think there are two standards for evaluating ARs, one for the guns that are in favor i.e. Colt et al and another for the guns not in favor i.e. BM et cetera. Example, BM will never be forgiven for selling guns with unstaked carrier keys even though no one seems to have seen one for years. Colt, judged by another standard evidently recently shipped some rifles with unstaked keys and it was dismissed. In fact, Colt seems to have some serious QC issues of late and no one seems to care.
