Gotcha. Yeah I would be interested in knowing how that came about as well.

Beautiful....makes me want one!
Was recently thinking of good 1911 'smiths in the Phoenix area (I hate to ship), and you guys build exquisite pistols. Just beautiful.
Jason,
How do you feel about the Aftec extractors? I come from a competitive standpoint and like the fact of supposedly never having to worry about re-fitting one
While I can’t speak to the reason why the “originals” were cut in the manner they were/are, I can say that the main reason I stop ball-cuts flush with the dust-cover is simply because it looks “right”… to me at least. ;)
For me it’s part of making the gun flow and have all of the modifications done in a manner that makes them work together. Too often there are guns built that have lots of neat modifications but that don't necessarily work well together... you can throw allot of things at a custom build but they all have to look as if they belong together. In a sense, the gun has to look like it could have been “born” that way. Stopping ball-cuts flush with the dust-cover helps accomplish this… at least in my world.
Bluntly, I have never seen a need for them. That said, I have used an AFTEC exactly twice so my experience base is admittedly limited in that regard. However, I have fit hundreds of conventional extractors (most of them the exceptional Wilson Combat Bulletproof part) and have shot and seen shot hundreds of thousands of rounds through 1911s and I can say for sure that when using a good part and fitting it correctly the proposed benefits of an AFTEC become inconsequential… at least in my world. ;)
Thanks again fort the comments guys... and sorry for the delay on my response.
