My build weighed 7.1 unloaded and my ddm4 weighs 7.5 unloaded, this is without optics.
Photo was taken with polymer lower in place, but the same configuration using the forged aluminum lower, it weighs 6 lbs, 15 oz with empty mag

Swapping out the M4 stock for a CTR with thick pad brings the weight up to 7 lbs, 2 oz. The sling adds another half pound
7 lbs on the money unloaded
I have a lightweight 16" that tips the scales at a svelte 5 lbs. 14 oz. without a mag in it.
Conversely, I also have a 16" with a MedCon (is that today's "SOCOM" profile?) barrel that weighs in at a hefty 8 lbs. 12 oz. without a mag.
People actually weigh their stuff?
I'm not sure, my current build is going to probably come in at 9# loaded with optic, light and suppressor.
Last time I weighed my got to BCM middy, with ACOG, G2X in IWC mount, magpul ACS stock, VCAS sling, MOE handguard, MIAD grip, and a loaded Pmag weighed in right at 9.5 pounds. Hoping to drop a few ounces in the near future with a rail system as well as freefloating the barrel.
Mine is 9 lbs minus mag, but with sling, suppressor, light, buis, and t1.
Haha thanks a lot IG, I now have Guinness all over my I pad.
I am guilty I have weighed mine on a mail scale. It changed throughout my build. I haven't had to carry my AR for work, life etc. But I figured if I did the more I could shave off the better while still keeping the extras I have become comfortable with. Changing certain mounts, taking off some unnecessary things, experimenting with different rails. If anything it was a neat experiment specially since I have had every one of Geissele's rails on my build until I found the weight, profile I wanted. It's funny how much my build changed specially in weight since I had the base model done. I think weighing it kept me couscous if I had to lug it around. I give you gents credit that carry yours, in the beginning I had trouble holding my AR up for a moderate periods of time, now that I have learned the correct way to hold and grip plus the practice it makes it a hell lot easier.
9lbs with full mag

I weighed both mine yesterday because my niece said my 20" weighed less than the 16". So I'll give both weights, M4gery to A4gery.
16" BCM A2 profile barrel
11" Troy FF battlerail with shaved fsb
MI mount with surefire flashlight
B5 Enhanced Sopmod stock
Magpul MBUS.
20" PSA A2 profile barrel
15" Troy alpha rail with shaved fsb
MI mount with surefire flashlight
A2 stock
Troy flip up buis
My 16" set up (scope and mount, flashlight and mount, empty with no magazine) weighs 8 lbs 5oz.
My 20" set up (scope and mount, flashlight and mount, empty with no magazine) weighs 8 lbs 7oz. After adding the Alpha rail, shaving the FSB, and removing the delta ring+spring pack I'm within 2oz. of my 16", go figure. The 20" is more balanced I think, making it feel lighter.
I really dig the 15" Alpha right now as I can put my hands or rest it where I want. Why is the weight so close? I have a much lighter Leupold on the 20", the 16" has a heavier Vortex for the time being.
14.5 Noveske with 11" NSR fully loaded 7.4lb
This thread got me curious and i weighed mine for the first time. Not all, just my go-to 12.5 SBR. It weighed 8.8 loaded and 7.4 unloaded.
18" SS stoner barrel with optics no mag 7 lbs 6 oz.

Anyone know the weight of the Hensoldt magnifiers?
If you're in a position where weight really matters, weighing gear can help prioritize load and show you where you could be saving ounces. I don't generally weigh my gear these days, but I do count advertised ounces. I do occasionally weigh my back-country rifle, as there's not always accurate information to go off, and too many parts to keep track of.
My multi-day winter pack is around 25-30lbs depending on the objective- 0F bag, 4-season tent, stove, food, insulating layers, thin rack of gear, not counting skis (which don't really factor, unless you have to pack them).. You can't pull that off without getting into the habit of counting ounces.
I got curious, so I just weighed my BCM RECCE on my wife's super accurate kitchen scale.

I have no idea, all I know is that working in construction and using a nail gun (8+ lbs) all day long made me unsensitive to handling an AR.
IMHO, if you think your AR is too heavy, you should hit the gym and not take some off the rifle, it's counterproductive.
Nope, thus I have no idea how much any of my rifles of any variety weight beyond what the factory spec's tell me.Quote:

I can't figure out why my rifle is so heavy with a 10.5" barrel, NSR, surefire mini, and T-1. 9.8 lbs minus sling but with ammo.

8.4 lbs without suppressor and mag.
lousy pic...but with no mag or sling, 5lbs 15oz according to my digital fish scale

I have another set up exactly the same way and it comes out at 6lbs 1oz.
The only difference between the two carbines seems to be that the first one has a barrel diameter of .570" forward of the FSB and the second is .590". They were purchased almost three years apart, with the .590 one purchased first, in 2010, so I guess BCM put their lightweight barrels on a bit of a diet during that time.
8lbs even, unloaded.

Yes... it's counterproductive when people try to make something already very light, lighter. Take polymer/composite/whatever uppers/lowers, they end up making a perfectly fine weapon system fragile just to save mere ounces, while forged aluminum is very light and very strong.
That's called a slippery slope argument, and it's usually a considered a fallacy.
Going for light weight doesn't necessarily mean cutting corners in quality. Taking an Aimpoint T-1 over an Aimpoint M4, taking a lightweight barrel instead of an HBAR, etc. are good examples of saving weight.
Yes, taking a polymer upper and lower then drilling holes into it to reduce weight would be stupid. But those type of people generally aren't on M4Carbine.
My BCM Mid-16 weighs in unloaded at about 9 lbs 2 oz. Pretty hefty with BFH barrel, Larue 9" handguard, T-1 in Larue mount, Troy/SKD rear BUIS, TD QD stubby VFG, Surefire G2 in VTAC mount, MagPul XT panels, TD PR4 sling mount, VCAS sling, and STR stock. I really like the solid Larue rails, but they are definitely heavy, so the STR balances them out a little. I love the rifle, but I'm going to build a 14.5" when the new BCM rail comes out to try a lighter alternative.
I also don't feel the need to make every single component as light as possible. For example, I look at lighter rails as a way to reduce weight while still retaining the heavy BFH barrel. I don't feel the need to go with a lightweight barrel on top of that. You just have to train and get used to carrying the weight you think is appropriate for you. If it's not comfortable for you, look for other ways to adjust the weight and/or balance.

My Colt LE6920, minus magazine & slings weighs in at 7lbs 4oz.....
